The .40 S&W has always had a bit of snap to it, and that is exactly where the M&P40 M2.0 Metal earns its keep. Smith & Wesson took the full-size M2.0 platform and swapped the polymer frame for machined 7075-T6 aluminum, adding just enough heft (right around 30 ounces) to settle the gun down between shots without making it a chore to carry or run through a long range session. The whole pistol wears a Tungsten Gray Cerakote finish that looks great and holds up to real use, while the 4.22 inch stainless steel barrel gets an Armornite treatment for corrosion resistance.
Beyond the added weight, the M&P's low bore axis keeps recoil driving straight back into your hand instead of flipping the muzzle, so follow-up shots come quicker and cleaner. The M2.0 flat face trigger gives you a consistent spot for your finger every time, and the enhanced sear delivers a crisper break than the older M&P triggers. The 18 degree grip angle points naturally for most hands, and four interchangeable palmswell inserts in S, M, ML, and L sizes let you dial in fit and trigger reach instead of adapting your grip to the gun.
The slide comes cut for a red dot, so you can mount your favorite micro optic or run the fixed steel white dot sights as they come. Front and rear slide serrations make press checks and racking easy even with sweaty hands, and the Picatinny rail up front takes lights and lasers without fuss. A wide slide stop and reversible magazine release round out the controls, and takedown does not require pulling the trigger thanks to the sear deactivation system.
Every pistol ships with two 15-round magazines, so you have 15+1 on tap and a spare ready to go. For anyone who still believes in the .40 S&W (and plenty of us do), this is one of the nicest factory platforms you can put it in. It hits the sweet spot for duty use, home defense, or just running drills on the weekend.

No, this version (model 14164) does not have a manual thumb safety. It relies on the standard striker-fired internal safeties, and the patented takedown system lets you field strip it without pulling the trigger.
