Description

The Streamlight TLR-8 HL-X USB packs a serious amount of punch for its size. It throws 1,000 lumens and 22,000 candela through a tighter, longer-reaching beam that stretches out to 297 meters, so you get plenty of reach when you need to identify what's downrange. Pair that with the built-in 640-660nm red laser and you've got both illumination and aiming handled by a single unit that clamps right onto your handgun's rail.

What the TLR-8 HL-X USB Brings to the Table

This one is a multi-fuel light, which is a big part of its appeal. It comes with Streamlight's SL-B9 protected lithium-ion battery pack that charges through a USB-C port built right in, and if you ever run dry you can drop in a single CR123A lithium cell and keep going. On the SL-B9 you'll get 1,000 lumens for about 30 minutes at default, and it's user-programmable down to 500 lumens for roughly an hour of runtime. Laser-only mode sips power and runs close to 29 hours. A nice touch is that you unscrew the front bezel to swap the battery, so you never have to pull the light off your firearm to charge or change it.

Controls and Build on the TLR-8 HL-X

The rear paddle switches are ambidextrous and interchangeable, with both high and low options included so you can match them to your grip and shooting style. You get three modes to work with: white LED only, LED and red laser combo, or laser by itself, plus a user-enabled strobe. The rail-grip clamp lets you attach and detach without tools and keeps your hands well clear of the muzzle during install. It's machined from anodized aluminum, carries an IPX4 water-resistance rating, and there's a safe-off feature that prevents accidental activation and saves your battery.

This is the standard TLR-8 HL-X, so it's built for a broad range of full-size and compact railed handguns rather than the subcompact-specific Sub models. It's assembled in the USA and backed by Streamlight's limited lifetime warranty, which tells you they stand behind it for the long haul.

Frequently Asked Questions

What guns does the TLR-8 HL-X USB fit?

This is the standard TLR-8 HL-X, designed for a variety of full-size and compact handguns with a universal or 1913 Picatinny-style rail. It uses an included key kit to lock into different rail patterns securely. If you're running a subcompact with a proprietary rail like a Glock 43X/48 or SIG P365, you'd want the Sub version instead. Streamlight keeps an up-to-date compatibility list if you want to confirm your exact model.

How do I charge the TLR-8 HL-X USB battery?

It comes with Streamlight's SL-B9 rechargeable battery that has a USB-C charge port built into the pack. To charge it, unscrew the front bezel and connect the included USB-C cable, which means you don't have to remove the light from your firearm. You can also run a standard CR123A lithium battery if you'd rather not deal with charging in a pinch.

How long does the TLR-8 HL-X run on a charge?

On the SL-B9 battery you'll get roughly 30 minutes at the full 1,000 lumens on default setting. It's user-programmable down to 500 lumens, which stretches runtime to about an hour. If you're running laser-only mode, it lasts close to 29 hours since it draws far less power.

Can I change which paddle switch is high and which is low?

Yes. The TLR-8 HL-X includes both high and low ambidextrous rear paddle switches, and they're interchangeable so you can set them up to match your grip and shooting preference. Swapping them is quick using the included multi-tool. It gives you flexibility whether you're a righty, lefty, or just want the throw a certain way.
