Just the release button is machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum. The magazine catch itself and the shaft are steel, which is what you want for the part that actually locks and holds the magazine. That combo gives you a lightweight, good-looking button backed by a durable steel catch.
Not at all. It's a drop-in job that uses the same process as a factory mag catch: remove the old catch and spring, install the new catch and spring, then thread the button on and press it in to set the depth. Most folks knock it out in a few minutes with basic tools.
