The Streamlight TL-Racker replaces the factory forend on your Remington 870 with an all-in-one light unit, so there's nothing bolted on and nothing dangling to snag on gear or catch a doorframe. It pumps out 1,000 lumens through a TIR optic, with 20,000 candela of peak beam intensity and a reach of around 283 meters. That's plenty of punch for home defense, close-quarters work, or lighting up whatever's moving at the far edge of the yard. The bright orange body also makes this a great pick if you want your training or utility gun to stand apart from a black defensive setup.
Instead of running a separate light and a pressure switch tail, everything lives in the forend itself. The ambidextrous switch pad runs the full length of the grip, so lefties and righties both get the same easy reach without shifting their hands. The rear of the pad handles momentary on, and the front toggles constant-on, which means you can flash-and-move or lock it steady depending on the situation. It runs on two CR123A lithium batteries loaded through a cap at the back, and you're looking at roughly 1.5 hours of continuous runtime.
This thing is made from a super-tough, impact-resistant nylon body that's rated to shrug off 12-gauge recoil, drops, and rough handling. It carries an IPX7 waterproof rating and an operating range from -20 to +120 degrees Fahrenheit, so weather isn't going to sideline it. Installation is refreshingly simple: unscrew the action slide nut, pull the old forend, and slide this one on. It fits most 12-gauge 870 and TAC-14 models, though it won't play nice with the 870 Express Super Magnum or the detachable-magazine 870 DM. One heads-up from folks who've done the swap: you'll want a shotgun forend wrench on hand, since one isn't in the box and it makes the job go a whole lot smoother.
It's built to replace the factory forend on most 12-gauge Remington 870 and TAC-14 pump shotguns. It will not fit the 870 Express Super Magnum, and while it physically installs on the 870 DM detachable-magazine model, the action stroke can come up short, so it isn't recommended there. If you're running a standard 870, you're good to go.
You'll want a shotgun forend wrench, sometimes called a spanner tool, to loosen and tighten the action slide nut. One isn't included in the box, so it's worth grabbing a universal forend wrench at the same time. Beyond that, the swap is straightforward and most folks knock it out in a few minutes.
