Description
Plenty of companies build Single Action Army clones. Very few build them the way Standard Manufacturing does. Every part of this revolver starts as solid 4140 steel, machined in-house in Connecticut. No castings, no metal injection molded internals, none of the shortcuts that keep most reproductions affordable but leave them feeling like reproductions. These come out of the same shop connected to Connecticut Shotgun, a company known for building some of the finest doubles in the world, and that shows in the fit, the polish, and the way this gun locks up.
A Nickel SAA Done the Old Way
The nickel plating covers the frame, barrel, cylinder, and metal parts, and it is thick, even, and mirror bright. Against all that polished nickel you get a bone and charcoal color case hardened hammer and fire blued screws and pins, the kind of small detail work that first generation Colts were famous for. The screws are even timed so the slots all line up. Two-piece walnut grips round out the package, and the whole thing balances at right around 40 ounces, which soaks up .45 Colt recoil nicely.
True to the 1873 Original
This is a faithful single action with a cone shaped firing pin and no transfer bar, so you get the classic four clicks when you thumb the hammer back and an action that feels the way a Peacemaker should. The 5.5 inch barrel gives you a useful sight radius over the fixed sights and that quintessential Artillery-length profile. Owners consistently report glassy actions and accuracy that runs well past what most people expect from a fixed sight single action.
Who This Revolver Suits
If you want a wall hanger, cheaper clones will do. This one is for the person who wants a working SAA built to a standard, whether that means cowboy action matches, trail carry, or simply owning the nicest single action at the range. It holds six rounds of .45 Colt, the cartridge this design was born with in 1873, and it is built stoutly enough to shoot as much as you like.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the Standard Manufacturing SAA different from other 1873 clones?
The big one is construction. Every part is machined from solid 4140 steel with no castings or metal injection molded internals, which is rare even among premium reproductions. The machining and hand fitting are all done in-house in Connecticut by the same operation behind Connecticut Shotgun, and details like timed screws and fire blued hardware reflect that pedigree.
Does this SAA have a transfer bar safety?
No, and that is by design. It uses a traditional single action lockwork with a cone shaped firing pin and no transfer bar, just like the original 1873 pattern. Like any traditional single action, the time-tested practice is to load five and rest the hammer on an empty chamber.
Is this revolver a safe queen or a shooter?
It can be both. The all 4140 steel construction makes it plenty stout for regular range use with standard .45 Colt loads, and owners report smooth actions and impressive accuracy for a fixed sight gun. At the same time, the nickel finish, case hardened hammer, and walnut grips make it a genuinely collectible piece.
What grips come on this nickel SAA model?
This SAR5N2 version wears traditional two-piece walnut grips, which is the classic look on a nickel Single Action Army. Standard Manufacturing also makes a one-piece grip variant, so double check the model number if you have a preference. The two-piece walnut pairs nicely with the bright nickel and case hardened hammer.
