Every AR-15 owner runs into it eventually: a stuck case that locks the gun up tight and won't budge. The old fix was mortaring the rifle, slamming the buttstock against the ground while yanking the charging handle, which is hard on the stock and receiver extension and not exactly confidence-inspiring. The Springfield Armory LevAR was built to put an end to that. This patented ratcheting charging handle gives you a 3:1 mechanical advantage over a standard handle, so you can clear a jammed cartridge with the muzzle still pointed downrange and a lot less drama.
Day to day, the LevAR behaves like any quality ambidextrous charging handle. The extended lever folds over and wraps around the rear of the unit, staying out of your way during normal charging and racking. When trouble hits, you depress the top button, rotate the arm outboard, grab it firmly, and pull straight back in one motion. The extra leverage does the work for you, and that stubborn case ejects right out the port.
This one shines on rifles running optics, magnifiers, or offset mounts where reaching a standard latch is awkward. It's also a favorite among bench and prone shooters, and anyone who has a harder time working a stiff charging handle from a seated position. The fold-out arm gives you something substantial to grab when you need it and disappears when you don't.
There's nothing fancy about setup. The LevAR is a true drop-in part that fits any standard mil-spec AR-15 upper receiver, so it installs the same way as the handle you're pulling out, no tools or gunsmithing required. At 7.25 inches long and right around 2.9 ounces, it swaps in without changing the feel of your rifle. Keep in mind it's designed specifically for AR-15 pattern uppers and won't fit AR-10/.308 platforms, since those charging handles aren't interchangeable.
You depress the top button and rotate the ratcheting arm outboard into its deployed position. Then you grab the arm and pull the handle straight back in one firm motion, and the 3:1 mechanical advantage forces the stuck cartridge out of the chamber and through the ejection port. It does the same job as mortaring the rifle but without the abuse on your stock and receiver extension.

Not at all. When the arm isn't deployed, the LevAR folds over and wraps around the rear of the unit and works just like a standard ambidextrous charging handle. The lever only comes into play when you choose to deploy it.
That's one of the spots it really shines. Users with scopes, magnifiers, and offset mounts like that the fold-out arm gives them an easy grab point when a standard latch would be tough to reach. It's also handy for bench and prone shooting where working a stiff handle from a seated position can be a pain.
