The Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0C Comp is what happens when a duty pistol goes on a diet without giving up anything important. Built around a 4-inch cold hammer-forged barrel with a Melonite finish and an integral single-port compensator machined directly into the slide and barrel, it redirects propellant gases upward to reduce muzzle rise and keep you on target faster between shots. This isn't a tacked-on comp — it's part of the gun itself. And Springfield was smart enough to position the front sight behind the port, so your sight picture stays clean no matter what.
The heart of the platform is the serialized Central Operating Group, a self-contained stainless steel chassis that houses all the fire control components. Because the COG is the serialized part, you can swap grip modules without going through a dealer — a genuinely useful feature for anyone who wants to tailor the gun to their hand size or pick up a different-colored frame down the road. The pistol ships with a small grip module and three interchangeable backstraps (small, medium, and large), each with a built-in armorer's tool. The pressure-activated grip texture is worth noting too — it feels smooth until you actually grip the gun, then it bites in and holds.
On the optics side, the Variable Interface System is one of the more impressive things Springfield has done with this platform. Controls are fully ambidextrous, and the slide has four distinct engagement surfaces — forward and rear serrations, a trench cut for press checks, and a flared rear — making it easy to run in any conditions. An accessory rail under the dust cover handles lights and lasers.
This specific variant ships with two 15-round flush-fit magazines, both finished in a scratch-resistant black coating. A soft double-zipper carrying case is also included.
The VIS can directly mount over 30 popular red dot sights without any adapter plates, using a set of self-locking pins that adjust to the optic's footprint. This specific variant (MPN: EC9409B-U-COMP15) includes two 15-round flush-fit magazines. Both magazines share the same scratch and wear-resistant black coating as all Echelon mags.

Because the Central Operating Group is the serialized component, grip modules are considered unregulated parts and can be ordered directly without going through a dealer. The swap itself is straightforward — if you can field strip the pistol, you can change the module. The Echelon 4.0C Comp is very similar in overall footprint to the Glock 19 — 7.25 inches long, 5.125 inches tall, and 1.20 inches wide.
