The TRP has sat at the top of Springfield Armory's 1911 lineup since the late 90s, when the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team picked the Springfield Professional and the company set out to bring that same feature set to a semi-custom production gun. This 4.25 inch Carry Contour version takes that pedigree and trims it down for everyday carry. The frame is forged aluminum alloy with a bobbed rear contour that cuts printing under a shirt without shrinking the grip, and it saves a serious amount of weight compared to an all-steel Commander. The slide is forged carbon steel, hand-selected and numbered to its frame for a fit with zero slop, and the whole gun wears a black Cerakote finish that shrugs off sweat and holster wear.
The AOS cut, developed with Agency Arms, uses interchangeable plates with an integrated rear sight, so mounting a Trijicon RMR, Shield RMSc, DeltaPoint Pro, or Docter-footprint dot doesn't mean giving up your irons. The plates set the optic at a height that keeps a usable co-witness, and the factory setup gives you a tritium front dot paired with a black serrated rear for a clean sight picture day or night. Prefer to run it slick? It shoots just fine with irons alone.
The 4.25 inch match-grade barrel is hammer forged stainless steel, and since this is a Series 70 style pistol there's no firing pin block muddying up the trigger. The Gen 2 Speed Trigger breaks clean, the hammer is skeletonized for faster lock time, and the ambidextrous thumb safety works for lefties and support-hand drills alike. VZ Hydra G10 grips and 20 LPI checkering lock your hand in place without chewing up your cover garment, and the frame includes an accessory rail up front for a compact light.
Seven plus one of .45 ACP in a hand-fitted, optics-ready Commander that's light enough to carry all day. It comes with three magazines and Springfield's zippered case, so you're range-ready the day you pick it up.
The Agency Optic System uses interchangeable mounting plates that cover most of the popular footprints, including the Trijicon RMR, Shield RMSc, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and Docter/Noblex patterns. Each plate has a rear sight built into it, so you keep backup irons with a usable co-witness. Plates are sold separately based on which optic you're running.
The rear of the frame is bobbed, which rounds off the corner that tends to print through clothing when you carry inside the waistband. Springfield shaped it so the grip still feels full in the hand, and most people don't notice any loss of control. It's also forged aluminum alloy instead of steel, which drops roughly 12 ounces compared to an all-steel Commander-size 1911.
It's a Series 70 style design, meaning there's no firing pin safety block in the trigger path. That's a big part of why the Gen 2 Speed Trigger feels so clean and crisp compared to Series 80 guns, which can pick up a slightly spongy takeup. Combined with the hand-fitted slide and frame, the trigger is one of the highlights of this pistol.
Yes, this model includes an accessory rail on the dust cover forward of the trigger guard. It accepts compact weapon lights and lasers, which pairs nicely with the optics-ready slide if you're setting it up for home defense or duty use. Just keep in mind holster selection for a railed, light-equipped Commander takes a little more shopping.
