There is a good reason the 14-inch AR keeps winning people over. It splits the difference between a full-size carbine and a stubby pistol build, and the Saint Victor V2 nails the formula. Springfield starts with a 14-inch 4150 chrome moly vanadium barrel in a 1:8 twist with a Melonite finish, then permanently attaches a 4-prong flash hider to bring the whole assembly out to 16 inches. The result is a rifle that swings faster in tight spaces and rides easier in a truck or safe, without giving up the velocity and sight radius advantages that make a rifle a rifle. This particular model ships with a single 10-round Magpul PMAG.
The V2 refresh addressed the stuff people used to swap out first. The mil-spec charging handle is gone, replaced by a Radian Raptor ambidextrous unit that is genuinely one of the best in the business. The safety is a 45-degree ambidextrous lever with a short, quick throw, and the flat-faced nickel boron trigger breaks clean enough that you will not be shopping for a replacement anytime soon. B5 Systems handles the furniture with an Enhanced SOPMOD stock and Type 23 P-Grip, both a big step up from standard fare. Underneath it all sit forged 7075-T6 receivers with Springfield's Accu-Tite tension system keeping the fit snug, plus an enhanced M16 bolt carrier group with a 9310 steel bolt that is HPT and MPI tested.
The free-float aluminum handguard carries a full-length Picatinny top rail, plenty of M-LOK slots for lights and grips, and integrated QD sockets so sling setup takes minutes, not a parts order. Low-profile spring-loaded flip-up sights come installed, so you can zero and shoot the day you bring it home, then add a red dot or LPVO whenever you are ready. At roughly six and three quarter pounds with a mid-length gas system and a heavy tungsten buffer smoothing out the cycle, this is a soft-shooting, well-sorted carbine that needs nothing out of the box.
The 4-prong flash hider is permanently pinned and welded to the 14-inch barrel, bringing the total barrel assembly to 16 inches. This gives you a shorter, faster-handling carbine while keeping the standard rifle configuration with a full buttstock. The trade-off is that swapping muzzle devices is more involved than on a threaded barrel, so it is best suited for folks happy with the factory setup.
The biggest change is the Radian Raptor ambidextrous charging handle replacing the old mil-spec unit, which was one of the first parts people upgraded on the original. The V2 also gets a continuous-taper 4150 CMV barrel for better heat management, lower-profile flip-up sights that play nicer with optics, B5 Systems furniture, and cleaner minimalist receiver markings.
Absolutely. The full-length Picatinny top rail runs uninterrupted from the receiver across the free-float handguard, so red dots, LPVOs, and magnifier combos all mount easily. The included flip-up sights are low profile, so they can stay on the rifle as backups underneath most optics.
Yes. This model ships with one 10-round Magpul PMAG, but the magwell accepts any standard AR-15 pattern magazine. The flared magwell also makes reloads a little quicker and more forgiving.
