The Echelon 4.0C is Springfield Armory's compact take on their widely praised full-size Echelon platform, and the Gear Pac version makes the whole package a lot more compelling right out of the box. You get the gun, a factory-mounted Viridian RFX11 green dot, four 15-round magazines, and a heavy-duty nylon zippered range bag — everything you need to head straight to the range or get your carry setup dialed in from day one.
At its core, the 4.0C is driven by Springfield's Central Operating Group, a self-contained serialized chassis machined from stainless steel that houses the fire control components. This isn't just a marketing talking point — the COG actually lifts out of the grip module and drops into other Echelon frames, which means you can change grip sizes or colors down the road without doing anything drastic to the gun itself. The patent-pending Variable Interface System on the slide lets you mount over 30 popular optics directly, without adapter plates, so your future upgrade options are wide open even with the RFX11 already on board.
The 4-inch hammer-forged barrel wears a Melonite finish for serious corrosion and wear resistance, and runs a 1:10 twist rate. Unloaded with a flush mag, the gun weighs in at 24 ounces and stretches 7.25 inches overall — compact enough to carry, substantial enough to shoot comfortably. The grip module features Springfield's Adaptive Grip Texture along with three interchangeable backstraps (small, medium, and large are all included), so you can tune the fit without any tools. The trigger runs around 4.5 to 5 pounds on average with a flat face, clean wall, and short positive reset — better than you'd expect from a factory striker-fired gun in this category.

The Central Operating Group (COG) is Springfield's serialized stainless steel fire control chassis — essentially the legal "firearm" component of the Echelon. Because it's self-contained, it can be removed from the grip module and swapped into other Echelon grip frames of different sizes or colors without tools. This gives the platform a level of modularity that most striker-fired pistols don't offer, and it means the trigger components are housed in a precision-machined steel chassis rather than directly in the polymer frame.
The 4.0C was designed specifically with carry in mind. At 7.25 inches overall and 24 ounces unloaded, it sits in a similar footprint to the Glock 19 but brings a more refined optics system, three interchangeable backstraps, and Adaptive Grip Texture to the table. The 15-round flush-fit magazine keeps the grip compact and concealable, and holster support from makers like Safariland is readily available.
The Echelon 4.0C does not have an external manual thumb safety. It relies on a trigger safety integrated into the face of the trigger, along with Springfield's internal second sear design in the COG which is engineered to prevent discharge if the pistol is dropped. The gun is designed and tested to exceed SAAMI drop test standards.
Yes. While the Viridian RFX11 comes factory-installed on the slide, it is not pre-zeroed from the factory. Plan to spend a little time at the range dialing it in with the ammunition you intend to carry or train with. The adjustment process is straightforward — the RFX11 uses standard hex key adjustments for windage and elevation, and most people get it dialed in within a box or two of ammo.
