There is something about a walnut and stainless over/under that just feels right in the hands, and the Spandau Premier Field nails that look without the boutique price tag. This 12 gauge wears 26-inch gloss blued barrels over a brushed stainless steel receiver, with real Turkish walnut on the stock and forend, clean checkering, and tidy metal work throughout. At roughly 6.3 pounds, it carries easily through a long day of walking field edges, and the shorter 26-inch tubes keep the swing quick and lively in tight cover.
Under the classic exterior, the features are genuinely practical. Mechanical triggers fire the second barrel regardless of recoil, so light target loads touch off just as reliably as heavy field loads. You also get a selectable firing order, auto ejectors to speed up reloads, and 3-inch chambers that handle everything from clays fodder to stouter hunting shells. A fiber optic front bead sits up front for fast, easy target pickup in low morning light. The barrels are threaded for the Benelli/Mobil choke pattern, one of the most common systems out there, so aftermarket tube options are nearly endless if you want to fine tune your patterns.
Spandau builds these in Turkey and imports them through SDS, and the fit and finish has earned real praise from hunting and gun dog publications for punching well above its class. It ships with five choke tubes and a hard case, so you can go from skeet distances to late season roosters without buying anything extra. Break it open, drop in two shells, and it does exactly what a double gun should.
For anyone who wants one shotgun that can pull double duty on Saturday clays and Sunday bird hunts, the Premier Field is an easy gun to like. It looks like a much more expensive gun, handles like a proper field piece, and comes ready to hunt right out of the case.
The barrels are threaded for the Benelli/Mobil choke pattern, which is one of the most widely supported systems on the market. Five tubes come with the gun, and if you ever want a specialty choke for turkey or waterfowl, aftermarket options are easy to find from just about every major choke maker.
That is really its sweet spot. The 26-inch barrels and light weight around 6.3 pounds make it quick handling for upland birds, while the mechanical triggers, auto ejectors, and interchangeable chokes suit skeet and sporting clays just fine. It is a true do-it-all double gun.
Mechanical triggers set the second barrel independently of recoil, unlike inertia triggers that rely on the first shot's kick to reset. That means even very light target loads or the occasional dud will not leave you unable to fire the second barrel. It is a feature usually found on higher end doubles.
Spandau Arms shotguns are built in Turkey and brought into the US by SDS Imports. Reviewers from several hunting publications have noted that the fit, finish, and machining quality on these guns stand well above what older budget Turkish imports were known for.
