The Safariland Comp II is purpose-built for the kind of straightforward reloading you need when every second counts. Unlike more complex designs, this speedloader uses a simple push-button operation that lets you dump all six rounds into your cylinder quickly with minimal fussing around.
The injection-molded design sits comfortably in your hand and grips your cartridges securely until you're ready to release them. Once you've lined it up with the cylinder, a quick push of the button drops all six rounds at once. There's no twisting knobs or wiggling things into place. This approach has been the go-to for competition shooters and duty users for decades because it works without drama.
This loader fits Colt Match, Official Police, Officer's, Old Model Trooper, and Python revolvers in both .38 Special and .357 Magnum. The real-world takeaway here is that fit matters with speedloaders. Your cylinder and grips need clearance for this tool to work smoothly. Depending on your revolver's grip style, you might need to try different options or even custom grips to get the best results. It's worth checking with folks who own your exact model before committing, since speedloaders can be finicky about clearance in ways that aren't always obvious until you test them.
Steel construction combined with the injection-molded body keeps this thing running year after year with minimal care. Black finish handles the range, the field, or a duty belt without showing its age. It's not flashy, but it's the kind of gear that just keeps working when you need it to.
Yes, the Comp II J-P3C is specifically designed for Colt Python revolvers along with Match, Official Police, Officer's, and Old Model Trooper models. What matters most is making sure your grips provide enough clearance for the speedloader to function smoothly. If you're running aftermarket grips, this is worth double-checking before ordering.
The Comp II uses a push-button release, meaning you line up the loader with your cylinder and press the button to drop all six rounds at once. Twist loaders like the HKS require rotating a knob and rely on gravity to release rounds, which means you have to hold the gun upright during reloading. The push-button design is generally faster and more intuitive, which is why it's popular for competition.
No special tools or ammo needed. Just load your standard .38 Special or .357 Magnum rounds into the speedloader and you're good to go. The loader holds the cartridges securely until you're ready to use it. Keep in mind that the grip clearance on your revolver may need adjustment depending on the model.
Most people get reasonably comfortable with a speedloader after a handful of practice runs at the range. The motion becomes second nature pretty quickly. Competition shooters will spend more time practicing to dial in their technique and reduce fractions of a second, but casual shooters find them easy enough to use after just a few tries.
