The Silver Eagle SE17 is TR Imports' no-nonsense entry into gas-operated semi-auto shotguns, and it gets a lot right. Built in the same Turkish facility as the higher-end Sporter, the SE17 trims cost through simplified components and a plainer walnut stock without cutting corners on the things that actually matter in the field. The result is a 12 gauge that weighs in at a trim 6 lbs 7 oz, shoulders quickly, and just works. The gas system handles both 2-3/4" and 3" shells without complaint, and the 28" vent rib barrel gives you the swing and sight picture that upland hunters and clay shooters both appreciate. Length of pull is 14-1/4" with a 48-1/2" overall length, putting this right in the zone for most adult shooters.
The gas-operated action does a real job of softening felt recoil compared to inertia-driven guns in the same price bracket, which is something you start to notice after a long day of dove or pheasant hunting. The forend and stock both feature a checkered pattern that adds grip texture in wet or cold conditions without looking out of place. The fiber optic front sight catches light well and makes target acquisition fast, whether you're tracking a crossing clay or picking up a flushing bird. Swivel studs on the stock and magazine cap mean you can mount a sling without any additional hardware.
Five choke tubes ship with the gun covering Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full, so you're covered for everything from close-in sporting clays to tighter turkey setups without needing to buy anything extra. The SE17 uses the Mobil-thread pattern, which is widely supported by aftermarket manufacturers including Trulock, Carlson's, Patternmaster, and Briley, so expanding your choke collection down the road is easy and affordable.
The SE17 is the kind of gun that surprises people. It looks nicer in person than photos suggest, handles better than the price implies, and has built a quiet reputation for durability among bird hunters who put real rounds through it season after season. TR Imports backs the gun with warranty support and a parts program, so you're not buying into an orphaned platform.
The SE17's gas system is designed to run both 2-3/4" and 3" shells, from light target loads up through full 3" field loads. Like most gas guns, it benefits from a proper cleaning before the first range session. Running a box of standard field loads to break it in is always a good idea with any new semi-auto shotgun.
Yes, the SE17 uses the Mobil thread pattern, which is one of the most widely supported choke systems in the industry. Aftermarket options from Trulock, Carlson's, Patternmaster, and Briley all fit, so you have plenty of choices if you want to expand beyond the five tubes that come with the gun.
The SE17 is built in the same Turkish facility as TR Imports' higher-priced Sporter model, sharing the same core gas system. Cost savings come from simplified components and a plainer walnut stock finish rather than from cutting reliability corners. The action is a bit stiffer out of the box than premium guns, but it smooths out with use and the gun has earned a solid reputation for long-term durability among hunters who put serious rounds through it.
The 28" vent rib barrel and light 6 lb 7 oz weight make it a genuinely comfortable carry gun over a full day in the field. The gas operation softens felt recoil compared to inertia-driven guns at similar price points, and the five included chokes give you the flexibility to dial in your pattern for different birds and distances. Built-in swivel studs also let you run a sling without modification.
TR Imports handles warranty service and parts support directly out of their Texas operation. They carry parts for the SE17 and have a reputation among owners for being responsive and easy to work with. Firearms distributed by TR Imports carry a limited warranty to the original purchaser, and you can register your gun and submit service requests through their website.
Absolutely. The 28" vent rib barrel is a versatile length that works well for both trap and skeet, and the fiber optic front sight picks up well in variable light conditions at the range. With five choke tubes covering the full spread from Cylinder to Full, you can adjust your setup whether you're breaking clays or switching over to a field load for birds.
