This is SIG Custom Works taking the proven P226 platform and building it into a dedicated single action match gun, with a 5 inch bull barrel, a full stainless steel frame, and enough weight (46.2 ounces of it) to keep the muzzle planted through fast strings. That heft is the point. Recoil feels more like a nudge than a snap, and the sights settle back on target almost before you notice they left.
The AX3 single action trigger system is where the X-Five STAS separates itself from just about everything else in the case. Pull weight and overtravel are both adjustable, and the trigger shoe itself is removable and adjustable for length of pull, so you can tune the whole setup to your hand and your discipline. Most people find it excellent right out of the box, but the option to fine-tune it is a big part of what makes this pistol special.
Up top you get a green fiber optic front sight paired with an adjustable Dawson-style rear plate. When you are ready to run a dot, the rear plate comes off so you can direct-mount a ROMEO1PRO, ROMEO2, or any optic on the PRO footprint, no adapter plate needed. The controls are extended and finished in black for a sharp contrast against the stainless, the thumb safety is ambidextrous, and the takedown lever is shaped into a gas pedal shelf for your support thumb. Hogue G10 Piranha grips and a flared magwell round out a package clearly designed by people who compete.
