Proof Research took its match-grade barrel technology and built it into a bolt-in package made specifically for the SIG Cross. This 6.5 Creedmoor barrel runs a 20-inch length with a 1:8 twist and a 5/8-24 threaded muzzle, so it plays nice with brakes and suppressors right out of the gate. The carbon fiber wrap is where the magic happens, shedding a big chunk of weight compared to a steel barrel of the same contour while keeping the Cross balanced and easy to carry through the backcountry.
The headline here is the drop-in design. This barrel ships with the barrel extension already installed and is guaranteed to headspace correctly, which means you can handle the swap at home without shipping your rifle off to a smith. That's a real advantage for anyone who likes to run more than one caliber or wants a longer tube than the factory setup. The carbon fiber isn't just for looks either, it helps pull heat off the barrel faster so your groups hold up over a longer string.
Stepping up to 20 inches over the shorter factory options buys you a bit more velocity, and 6.5 Creedmoor already earns its keep as a flat-shooting, low-recoil round that stays honest way out past most hunting distances. The 1:8 twist is dialed in for the heavier, high-BC bullets that make the 6.5 shine at range. Whether you're chasing game or ringing steel, this pairing gives the Cross the reach it was built for.
Proof Research wraps every barrel in aerospace-grade carbon fiber over a match-grade core, and the company has a strong track record with precision and competition shooters. If you want to turn your Cross into a lighter, longer-legged rig without a trip to the workbench, this is about as straightforward as an upgrade gets.
No. This barrel is a true drop-in design that comes with the barrel extension already installed and is guaranteed to headspace correctly. That means you can handle the swap yourself at home with basic tools. It's built so you can change calibers or barrel lengths without shipping your rifle off.
Proof Research carbon fiber barrels run up to 64% lighter than a traditional steel barrel of similar contour. On a rifle like the Cross that's already built around portability, that weight savings up front makes a noticeable difference in balance and carry comfort. It also helps the barrel shed heat faster during longer strings.
This barrel has a 1:8 twist, which is the standard spec for 6.5 Creedmoor. That rate stabilizes the heavier, high-BC match and hunting bullets the cartridge is known for, letting you get the most reach and wind performance out of the round. It handles the full range of common 6.5 loads well.
Yes, the muzzle comes threaded 5/8-24, which is the common thread pitch for 6.5 Creedmoor and .30 caliber muzzle devices. You can run a brake, compensator, or suppressor without any extra machining. Just match your device to that thread spec.
