Savage got back into the lever gun game with the Revel series, and the DLX is the dressed-up version of the lineup. It runs a 12-round tubular magazine under an 18-inch medium-profile carbon steel barrel, and the muzzle comes threaded from the factory, so adding a rimfire can is about as simple as it gets. A .22 LR lever action with a suppressor on the front is one of the most enjoyable setups you can bring to the range, and this one was clearly built with that in mind.
The action is the headline here. It cycles smooth right out of the box, without the gritty break-in period some new lever guns need, and the oversized loop gives you plenty of room to run it fast, gloves or not. The trigger breaks around 2.5 pounds, which is lighter and cleaner than you'd expect in this category, and it makes a real difference when you're stretching shots on small targets. Instead of the usual straight grip, Savage went with a pistol grip stock in satin-finished Turkish walnut, with stippled panels on the grip and forend and a rubber pad at the back. It looks sharp and it hangs onto your hand well in the field.
Toolless takedown splits the rifle in seconds for a backpack, ATV bag, or behind-the-seat storage, which makes it a natural for squirrel camps and cabin trips. Adjustable iron sights come standard, and the black Cerakote aluminum receiver is drilled and tapped, so mounting a scope for tighter work is straightforward. At 6.1 pounds with a 36.5-inch overall length, it carries easy all day.
Plinking, small game, pest control, teaching a new shooter the fundamentals, this rifle covers all of it. Cheap ammo, no recoil, and a lever action that begs you to keep feeding it. It stacks up well against the established names in rimfire lever guns, and the threaded barrel and takedown feature give it a few tricks most of them don't have.
Yes, the 18-inch barrel comes threaded from the factory, and this rifle is a popular host for rimfire suppressors. Reviewers have run it with cans like the SilencerCo Switchback 22 with great results, and the tube magazine loads easily even with a suppressor attached. Paired with subsonic .22 LR, it makes for a remarkably quiet setup.
It is. The Revel DLX breaks down into two pieces without any tools, which makes it easy to stash in a backpack, truck, or small case. Reassembly is quick and simple, so it's a solid pick as a packable camp or trail rifle.
Yes, the aluminum receiver comes drilled and tapped for a scope base, and Savage offers a Revel scope rail as an accessory. It ships with adjustable iron sights, so you're covered either way. A compact rimfire scope or red dot turns it into a very capable small game rig.
The DLX is the upgraded version of the line. It features satin-finished Turkish walnut with stippled grip panels, a pistol grip stock instead of a straight grip, and a lighter trigger that breaks around 2.5 pounds. Both versions share the same smooth lever action, tube magazine, and takedown design.
