Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 24 inch heavy carbon steel barrel featuring 5R rifling and a 1:8 twist, it's set up to stabilize the long, high-BC bullets that made this cartridge the go-to for shooting way past normal distances.
The MDT chassis is where this rifle earns its keep. Comb height and length of pull are both adjustable, so getting proper eye alignment behind a scope takes minutes instead of a trip to a gunsmith. The skeletonized buttstock keeps weight reasonable at around 9.5 pounds, the forend is M-LOK compatible for bipods and barricade stops, and the pistol grip swaps with any AR-style grip if the factory one doesn't suit your hand. Savage's AccuTrigger is user-adjustable from 1.5 to 4 pounds, which covers everything from a crisp match pull to something a little more forgiving for field work.
The muzzle wears a BA brake on 5/8×24 threads, so you can run it as-is to tame recoil and spot your own impacts, or spin it off for a suppressor. A one-piece 20 MOA rail comes installed, giving you the extra elevation that matters when you start dialing for serious distance, and feeding comes from an included 10-round AICS-pattern magazine, the same pattern used across most of the precision rifle world. Add glass and a bipod and you've got a legitimate PRS trainer, steel-ringing machine, or long-range hunting rig that was built for southpaws from the start.
Yes, this is a dedicated left-hand configuration with the bolt handle and ejection port set up for lefty operation. It's not a right-handed action in a neutral stock. Savage builds this model specifically for southpaws, which is still fairly rare in the factory precision rifle market.
No, it ships without sights or optics. It does come with a one-piece 20 MOA rail already installed, so all you need to do is add rings and a scope. The 20 MOA cant is a nice touch since it gives you extra elevation adjustment for stretching the 6.5 Creedmoor out to longer distances.
The 24 inch barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is the standard thread pitch for most 6.5mm and .30 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. Just remove the included BA muzzle brake and thread on your can. The brake works well for spotting your own impacts if you'd rather run it as it comes.
It feeds from AICS-pattern magazines and includes one 10-round mag in the box. The AICS pattern is the most common standard in precision shooting, so spare mags in various capacities are easy to find from MDT, Magpul, Accurate-Mag, and others.
