The SAR9 Sport takes a pistol that already earned a reputation for being tough as nails and stretches it into something built for the range. The standard SAR9 went through some of the most brutal torture testing in the industry, including extreme heat and cold, salt fog, rain, drop tests, and well over a hundred thousand rounds of live fire. The Sport keeps that same rugged core and adds a 5.2 inch forged steel barrel and a longer slide with cooling ports that trim reciprocating weight and help tame muzzle movement. The longer sight radius does real work too, making it easier to shoot tight groups whether you are running an IDPA stage or just punching paper on a Saturday.
SAR put serious thought into the ergonomics on the SAR9 Sport. Interchangeable backstraps let you tune the frame to your hand size, and the aggressive wraparound texturing keeps everything planted even when your palms get sweaty during a long session. The 20 degree grip angle and low bore axis work together to cut muzzle rise, and the dual recoil spring soaks up the snap in two stages, so follow-up shots come back on target fast. Lefties get a fair shake here too, with a reversible magazine release and a manual thumb safety.
You get contrast three dot sights out of the box, front and rear slide serrations for easy manipulation, a striker status indicator so you always know where the pistol stands, and a Picatinny accessory rail up front for a light or laser. The full-size polymer frame keeps the total weight right around 29.9 ounces, light enough to carry around the range all day without wearing you out.
With a 17 round magazine and a 19 round extended magazine included, plus a build quality that punches well above its class, the SAR9 Sport is a lot of pistol for the money. It works as a dedicated range gun, an entry into competition shooting, or a full-size home defense option that will feed round after round without complaint.
This model ships with two magazines: a standard 17 round mag and an extended 19 round mag. The extended magazine gives you 19+1 total capacity and adds a little extra grip length for larger hands. Standard SAR9 magazines are compatible across the platform, so spares are easy to come by.
That is exactly what it was built for. The 5.2 inch barrel and longer slide give you an extended sight radius, and the slide porting cuts reciprocating mass for faster cycling and less muzzle rise. It is a popular budget-friendly entry point for IDPA and USPSA style matches, and it holds its own as a general range gun too.
The SAR9 went through some seriously punishing factory testing, including extreme temperature exposure, salt fog, rain, drop tests, and over 150,000 rounds of live fire. It also performed strongly in a NATO trial against pistols from major American and European makers. In short, the platform has proven it can take a beating and keep running.
It is very lefty friendly. The magazine release is reversible so you can swap it to the right side of the frame, and the manual thumb safety is easy to reach. Front and rear slide serrations also make racking the slide simple from either side.
