The STT-15L wasn't designed light just to look good on a spec sheet. The lower weighs just 7.7 ounces and the upper a mere 6.9 ounces, making the complete set tip the scales at only 14.6 ounces. San Tan removed the forward assist from the upper and engineered structural truss pockets into both pieces, cutting excess weight while maintaining rigidity. For 3-gun competitors, hunters, and anyone managing fatigue over long days of shooting, that difference compounds across an entire gun build.
Both receivers are cut from a single billet of 7075-T6 aerospace-grade aluminum on CNC equipment built for aircraft-level tolerance work. The upper is hand-serialized to match the lower, and San Tan finishes each set with Mil-Spec Type III hard anodizing in Olive Drab Green. This matched pairing eliminates the tolerance stacking problems that plague mismatched receivers, meaning cleaner pin fitment, less wobble between upper and lower, and better long-term accuracy. You're not dealing with a budget receiver set here—this is the foundation for a rifle that will hold zero.
The design includes an oversized magazine well, a flared design for fast mag changes under stress, and what San Tan calls their "shooter ready" features. A captured rear takedown pin spring, set screws for trigger creep and upper tension adjustment, and threaded dowel assembly (no roll pins) make both assembly and field maintenance more straightforward. The Olive Drab finish provides a classic look while the hard anodizing offers durability against corrosion in the field. You get full Mil-Spec compatibility across the platform, so your existing AR-15 parts, barrels, and handguards integrate without modification.
The upper receiver comes with the dust cover already installed, but the lower receiver is stripped. You'll need to add a lower parts kit with trigger, safety, and buffer assembly to complete the build. The upper is ready to accept a bolt carrier group and barrel.
