Every piece is centerless ground and then heat treated and hardened after machining, which is the same process Nowlin uses on their barrels and other precision parts. Soft factory pins can peen, wear oversize, or walk out of position over time. A hardened, properly sized pin holds its dimension and keeps the fire control group indexed the way it was fitted.
The stainless option carries a matte finish that blends in cleanly on a stainless slide and frame, while Nowlin also offers this same lineup in blue steel for guns with a traditional carbon steel look. Most of these pins are sized to go in without drama, though old-school 1911 habits still apply. The hammer strut pin, for example, is typically a slip fit that gets staked once it's in place, and a top gunsmith will always give the fire control pins a once over before final assembly.
