Muzzle flash at dusk can wash out your sight picture right when you need it most, and that's exactly the problem the Rugged R3 Flash Mitigation System was built to solve. Rugged designed the R3 around variable fluted prongs, which do two things well: they tear apart the flash signature from 7.62mm rounds, and they stay quiet doing it. Anyone who has run a cheap three-prong device knows the annoying tuning fork ring they can develop. The R3's fluted prong design eliminates that entirely, so you get serious flash reduction without your rifle sounding like a wind chime.
The smart part of the R3 is what's machined into its base. It carries Rugged's toothless Dual Taper Locking System, which means this flash hider doubles as the mount for the Radiant762, Surge 7.62, Razor 7.62, and Micro30 suppressors. The taper design is snag-free, with no teeth or ratchet edges to chew up your gear or hang on a sling, and it gives the can a solid, repeatable lockup every time you spin it on. If you're already running a Rugged can, adding an R3 to another rifle means your suppressor moves between hosts in seconds.
This version is cut for M18x1.5 threads, the metric pattern found on rifles like the FN SCAR 17S, so you can hang a Rugged suppressor on those barrels without hunting for adapters. At 2.13 inches long and a feathery 2.5 ounces, it adds barely anything to the end of the rifle, which matters on a gun you carry more than you shoot.

M18x1.5 is best known as the factory muzzle thread on the FN SCAR 17S and similar 7.62 platforms with metric threading. Double-check your barrel's thread pitch before ordering, since Rugged also makes the R3 in 5/8×24 and other patterns. If your muzzle measures M18x1.5, this is the one you want.
No timing is required. Since it's a symmetrical pronged flash hider rather than a ported brake, there's no top or bottom orientation to worry about. Just install it to proper torque on clean threads with the appropriate hardware for your barrel and you're set.
