The Mark series has been the go-to rimfire pistol for generations, and the Mark IV Target is the version that finally made cleaning one enjoyable. Press the recessed button at the back of the frame and the barrel and receiver tilt up and off the grip frame, no tools, no wrestling, no watching a video three times just to get it back together. That alone won over a lot of longtime Mark owners, and the rest of the pistol backs it up.
Accuracy starts with the 5.5 inch cold hammer-forged bull barrel, rifled with a 1:16 twist that stabilizes just about any .22 LR load you feed it. The internal cylindrical bolt design keeps the sights and barrel in permanent alignment, since nothing up top reciprocates like a conventional slide. You get a fixed front sight and a fully adjustable rear, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for a Weaver or Picatinny rail if you'd rather run a red dot or scope. The blued finish over the alloy steel upper gives it that classic target pistol look that never goes out of style.
This model wears smoothly contoured wood laminate target grips with wraparound finger grooves, and they make a real difference on the bench. The pistol weighs in at 35.8 ounces, and that heft combined with the mild recoil of .22 LR means the sights barely move between shots. The one-piece CNC-machined aluminum grip frame keeps everything solid, and the ambidextrous safety and push-button magazine release round out the controls. Mags drop free when you hit the release, which is a nice touch during long range sessions.

Yes. The receiver comes drilled and tapped for a Weaver or Picatinny style rail, so mounting an optic is straightforward. Keep in mind the rail itself is sold separately, so grab one along with your optic if you plan to go that route. The adjustable iron sights work great on their own in the meantime.
This is the easiest Mark pistol Ruger has ever made to field strip, and that's the main reason it exists. Press the recessed button at the rear of the frame and the barrel-receiver assembly tilts up and off the grip frame without any tools. Older Mark series pistols were famous for tricky reassembly, and the Mark IV fixed that completely.
It has a strong reputation for eating just about any .22 LR you feed it, including budget bulk pack loads. Like most rimfire semi-autos, it tends to run best with high velocity ammo, and quality match loads will tighten up your groups. The cold hammer-forged bull barrel gives it plenty of accuracy potential either way.
Ruger ships this model with two 10-round magazines, which is a nice bonus since a lot of pistols only include one. The magazines drop free when you press the release button on the left side of the frame. Extra Mark IV mags are widely available if you want to keep a few loaded for range day.
