It ships to the same tolerances and uses the same materials as the magazine that came in the box with your gun, which means you can count on the same fit and feed reliability every single time.
The body is constructed from alloy steel with a black oxide finish, giving it solid corrosion resistance and the kind of durability that holds up through years of range sessions, reloads, and the occasional drop. Inside, a high-tensile steel wire spring pairs with an injection-molded polymer follower to keep cartridges feeding consistently and in the right alignment. The numbered witness holes on the side let you do a fast round count at a glance without having to guess how much is left in the mag.
The floor plate is a removable polymer flush-fit design, which keeps the profile clean for carry or holster use. New springs are on the stiffer side out of the box, so expect a little resistance loading to full capacity until it breaks in a bit. That's completely normal for any factory mag with a fresh spring.
One thing worth knowing: this magazine also works in the Ruger PC Carbine and PC Charger when those rifles are fitted with the SR9/Security-9 magazine well insert, which makes it a versatile pick if you run both platforms. It is not compatible with the SR9 or SR9c pistols, and it is not recommended for use in the Security-9 Compact without the separate compact magazine adapter (#90668).

Nothing is wrong. New factory magazines typically have stiff springs straight out of the packaging, and loading to full capacity can feel tight until the spring breaks in with use. Running it through a few range sessions will loosen things up noticeably. This is true of virtually all new steel-body magazines.
The magazine features numbered witness holes on the side of the body so you can check your round count at a glance. It is a simple but practical feature, especially during a range session when you want a quick visual without dropping the mag.
A common recommendation among range regulars is a minimum of three magazines total for any pistol you shoot regularly. Having at least one extra beyond what came with the gun means you spend more time shooting and less time reloading during range sessions, and it gives you a backup in case one gets lost or damaged.
