If you shoot a K-frame revolver with any regularity, you know the difference a good speedloader makes when you're loading between strings at the range or competing. This Pachmayr model ditches the plastic design philosophy entirely and goes with precision-machined aluminum that can handle years of training cycles without getting beat up.
What makes it stand out in the crowded speedloader market is the polygonal shape. Instead of the round body you'll see on most loaders, Pachmayr cut this one with distinct flats that trim down the outside diameter. That's not just about looks, it actually matters when you're trying to get the loader around bigger grips or working in real-world conditions where clearance isn't always perfect.
The aluminum construction keeps things lightweight at around two ounces unloaded, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's delicate. This is CNC-machined from solid stock and finished with hard anodizing that resists corrosion and wear. The o-ring system is the detail that separates this from basic twist loaders. Instead of cartridges sitting loose in the chamber, the rubber ring contacts the base of each round and holds them firmly in place. Invert the loader and drop your six cartridges into the chambers. Rotate the knob clockwise firmly until cartridges lock in place. To release into your revolver's cylinder, simply align the cartridges with the chambers and twist the knob counterclockwise. The cartridges will drop free. Don't hold the loader by the knob when loading it with cartridges.
The o-ring is built into the loader body and is designed to stay put. It contacts the base of the cartridges to eliminate rattle during carry and keeps rounds firmly in place. If it becomes dry over time, a light coat of oil can restore smooth operation.
The solid aluminum construction holds its shape longer than plastic and resists damage from drops and impacts better than polymer bodies. The trade-off is slightly more rigidity in the release mechanism, which some shooters prefer for consistent operation under pressure. The polygonal design gives it a smaller footprint than traditional round speedloaders while maintaining full functionality.
