There is something about a short, big-bore lever gun that just feels right in the hands, and the Rossi R95 Trapper Deer Edition leans all the way into it. This is a blacked-out R95 chambered in 45-70 Government, wearing deer-themed engraving across the receiver and stock that gives it a look you will not find on the standard production models. It is the kind of rifle that draws attention in the deer camp for the styling, then earns its keep once the season opens.
The 16.5 inch barrel keeps the whole package compact and quick to swing, which matters when you are climbing into a stand, working a ground blind, or sliding it behind the truck seat. The tube magazine holds five rounds of 45-70, plenty of thump for whitetail, hogs, black bear, or just about anything else walking around North America. The muzzle is threaded, so adding a brake to tame recoil or running a suppressor is a simple swap. A large loop lever rounds it out, giving you extra room for gloved hands on cold mornings and a little classic Western flavor while it is at it.
A Picatinny rail sits on top of the receiver from the factory, so mounting a red dot, scout scope, or low-power variable takes minutes instead of a trip to the gunsmith. That is a real advantage on a 45-70 trapper, since a simple red dot turns this into a seriously fast brush rifle inside typical hunting distances.
The R95 platform has built a solid reputation for smooth cycling and dependable feeding, and plenty of folks who have run one next to pricier lever guns come away impressed. This Deer Edition takes that proven action and adds the engraving, rail, threaded muzzle, and big loop as a complete package. If a 45-70 lever gun has been on your list, this one covers the practical boxes and looks sharp doing it.
This is a special build on the R95 Trapper platform with deer-themed engraving on the blacked-out receiver and stock. It also comes set up with a Picatinny rail, a threaded muzzle, and a large loop lever, so it is ready for optics and muzzle devices right out of the box.
Yes, this rifle ships with a Picatinny rail already installed on top of the receiver. That makes mounting a red dot, scout scope, or low-power variable quick and painless. A red dot is a popular pairing on short 45-70 lever guns like this one.
It is. The 16.5 inch barrel comes with a threaded muzzle, and the R95 platform uses the common 5/8×24 thread pitch. That means most 45 caliber rated suppressors and muzzle brakes will spin right on.
The 45-70 Government is one of the most capable hunting cartridges in North America. It handles whitetail and hogs with ease and has plenty of authority for black bear, elk, and moose at woods ranges. The short barrel and 5+1 tube capacity make this a great fit for blinds, stands, and thick timber.
