The AK-74 has always had a loyal following, and the Riley Defense RAK-74 side folder gives you that classic Soviet-era look without hunting down an aging import. Riley builds these here in the USA on a fully heat-treated, mil-spec stamped receiver, and the forged trunnion, bolt, and carrier are the parts that matter most for long-term durability on any stamped AK. Pair that with a 16.25 inch chrome-lined barrel threaded 24×1.5 RH and wearing a 100 series style muzzle brake, and you get a rifle that runs the soft-recoiling 5.45×39 round about as flat and gentle as a centerfire rifle gets.
The triangular metal folding stock is the signature piece here. It locks up solid when deployed, folds tight against the receiver for storage or transport, and gives the rifle that unmistakable 100 series silhouette. Stained solid teak upper and lower handguards warm up the look, and the black oxide finish on the metalwork ties it all together. You also get adjustable front and rear sights, a machined side rail for mounting an optic, a bayonet lug, and an extended magazine release. One thoughtful touch is the bolt hold-open notch on the safety selector, which makes range work and cleaning a little easier than a bone-stock AK.
At 35.25 inches overall with the stock open, this is a handy rifle that gets even handier folded. The 5.45×39 cartridge shoots flat, recoils lightly, and steel-cased surplus-style ammo keeps range days affordable when you can find it in bulk. The chrome-lined bore shrugs off high round counts and less-than-perfect ammo without complaint.
Riley Defense backs these rifles with a two-year factory warranty, and each one ships with a 30-round magazine so you are ready to shoot out of the box. If a proper side-folding AK-74 with real wood furniture has been on your list, this one checks the boxes without the collector-grade price of a vintage import.
Yes, Riley Defense manufactures these rifles in the United States. The receiver is a fully heat-treated, mil-spec stamped unit, and the trunnion, bolt, and carrier are all forged, which is what you want on a stamped AK that will see a lot of rounds.
You can. The rifle comes with a machined scope mount side rail on the left of the receiver, so any standard AK side-mount optic setup will clamp right on. The folding stock still folds with most low-profile side mounts, though bulkier mounts may interfere, so check clearance with your specific setup.
Yes, one 30-round magazine ships with the rifle. It also feeds well from most quality AK-74 pattern magazines, including surplus Bulgarian and modern polymer options, which are affordable and easy to find.
It is. The barrel is threaded 24×1.5 RH, which is the standard AK-74 pattern, so the included brake spins off and you can run other 24mm muzzle devices made for that thread. The factory brake does a nice job taming what little recoil 5.45×39 produces.
