The Rock Island VR60 answers a simple question: what if a 12 gauge handled like the rifle you already know? Built on an AR-style platform, the VR60 puts the safety and magazine release right where your thumb and trigger finger expect them, so there's no relearning your manual of arms when you switch from carbine to scattergun. Feeding comes from detachable 5-round box magazines, which means reloads are a quick swap instead of thumbing shells into a tube one at a time.
Under the enlarged polymer handguard sits a conventional gas system wrapped around a support tube below the 20 inch barrel, with the return spring riding on that same tube. It's a proven setup that cycles a wide range of loads, and the 3 inch chamber handles everything from light target loads to magnum buckshot. The upper receiver is machined from aluminum alloy with a black anodized finish, and the barrel removes easily from the upper when it's time for cleaning. At around 7.4 pounds, it has enough heft to soak up recoil without feeling like a boat anchor, and the rubber butt pad on the polymer stock takes the sting off the rest.
Up top you get a removable A2-style carry handle with an integral Picatinny rail underneath. Run it as-is with the irons, or pull the handle and go flat top with a red dot for faster target acquisition. Rock Island also includes three choke tubes, Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder, so you can tighten or open your pattern depending on whether you're breaking clays, chasing birds, or patterning defensive loads.

The VR60's gas system runs a wide range of ammo, and range reports show it cycling everything from bulk birdshot up to buckshot and slugs. If you plan to run mostly light loads, feed it some full-power shells first to smooth things out.
