The RXP22 is Retay's answer to a simple question: what if a .22 LR pistol was actually built like it mattered? Instead of cutting corners with cheap steel and bare-bones features, Retay engineered this thing around an aerospace-grade 7075 aluminum alloy internal frame and slide, housed in a hard coat anodized polymer chassis. The result is a rimfire pistol that feels solid in the hand and holds up like one too.
The 4-inch barrel is precision-drilled and chrome-finished from AISI 4140 low-alloy steel with a 1/2×28 thread pitch, ready for a suppressor or muzzle device without any extra work. The slide is drilled and tapped for RMR and RMSc footprint optics, and a universal mounting plate is included in the box for anything outside those footprints. Up front, you get a TruGlo fiber optic sight that picks up fast in various lighting conditions, paired with a target-style adjustable rear. The ambidextrous manual safety and double/single-action hammer-fired design give it the kind of controls that feel familiar if you spend time with duty-style handguns.
The FDE slide and black frame two-tone setup looks sharp, but the more practical detail is the weighted metal magazines. Most rimfire pistols ship with cheap lightweight mags, and it kills the feel. Retay weighted these deliberately to simulate the heft of a loaded centerfire mag, which matters when you're using this gun for training reps. The 13+1 capacity keeps you shooting longer between reloads, and the reversible magazine release lets you set it up the way you want.

The RXP22 threaded barrel uses a 1/2×28 thread pitch, which is the most common standard for .22 LR suppressors and muzzle devices. This means you can run any standard .22 LR or 9mm suppressor with a 1/2×28 adapter without needing a proprietary mount. A thread protector should be used when shooting without a suppressor attached.
The slide is drilled and tapped to accept optics on the Trijicon RMR and Shield RMSc footprints directly. Retay also includes a universal mounting plate in the box that opens it up to a wider range of red dot sights. That covers the vast majority of popular mini red dots on the market today.
It's actually a great fit for newer shooters. The .22 LR chambering keeps recoil minimal, which helps build fundamentals without flinching or fatigue setting in. The ergonomics closely mirror a compact 9mm pistol, so the skills and muscle memory developed on the RXP22 translate well when stepping up to a centerfire handgun.
Reliability across various ammo types has been a highlight for most owners. CCI Mini-Mags and standard velocity loads like Federal and Aguila have fed and cycled without issue for many shooters well into the hundreds of rounds. Standard and hollow point velocity loads tend to run best, while very low-power subsonic or quiet loads may not generate enough energy to cycle the action reliably.
This specific model features a Flat Dark Earth Cerakote slide paired with a black polymer frame, giving it a two-tone look that sets it apart from the all-black or matching-color variants. The FDE slide also has the same optic-ready and serrated treatment as every other RXP22. Internally and functionally, all the threaded 13-round variants are the same gun.
Yes, the RXP22 uses a Glock-compatible sight cut up front with a TruGlo fiber optic front sight installed from the factory. That means if you want to swap to aftermarket Glock-pattern front sights, you have a wide selection available. The rear sight is a target-style adjustable unit.
