There's no shortage of tactical shotguns on the market, but most of them make you pick between a reliable action and a modern accessory layout. The Retay 724 Patrol gives you both. At the heart of it is Retay's Inertia Plus rotating bolt, which uses an internal torsion spring to positively rotate the bolt head into battery and keep it there. That solves the classic inertia gun headache of a bolt getting bumped out of battery when you set the gun down or brush it against something. It also closes quietly with almost no bolt rattle, which you'll appreciate the first time you handle one next to a typical inertia gun.

Built to Run Accessories

The aluminum M-LOK forend gives you real estate for a light, laser, or hand stop without adding cheap polymer rails you'll never use. Up top, the receiver is drilled and tapped for a bowtie Picatinny rail with #8-40 screws, and it accepts RMR and RMSc footprint red dots, so you can mount an optic low and keep a clean sight picture. If irons are more your speed, the Retay tactical front sight is ready to go out of the box. The pistol grip synthetic stock keeps your firing hand indexed under recoil, and the oversized safety is reversible for left-handed use.

Practical Touches on the 724 Patrol

Retay didn't skip the small stuff. The enlarged loading port makes topping off the 5+1 magazine faster, the Easy Out magazine unloading system lets you clear the tube without cycling shells through the chamber, and the trigger guard is aluminum instead of plastic. The 18.5-inch barrel wears a black chrome finish and handles both 2.75 and 3 inch shells. At 7 pounds, it swings quick but has enough weight to soak up 12 gauge recoil.

Chokes Included with the Retay 724

Unlike a lot of defensive shotguns that ship with a fixed cylinder bore, the 724 Patrol comes with five choke tubes: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. That flexibility means this gun can pull double duty patterning buckshot tight or stretching its legs with slugs and field loads. It's also breaching choke compatible if you want to go that route later.
