Remington's Core-Lokt line has been the go-to for big game hunters since 1939, and this .444 Marlin loading carries that legacy forward. The 240-grain soft point bullet is purpose-built for the straight-walled .444 case, delivering the kind of reliable performance that's made this cartridge popular among hunters pursuing everything from whitetail to elk in medium to heavy cover.
At the heart of this load is the original controlled expansion concept that made Core-Lokt famous. The tapered copper jacket is mechanically locked to a solid lead core, promoting massive 2X expansion on impact while maintaining excellent weight retention. This design transfers energy efficiently in the first several inches of penetration, creating devastating wound channels without excessive fragmentation. The soft point configuration provides a broad frontal area that initiates expansion quickly, making it well-suited to the moderate velocities and heavy bullets the .444 excels with.
This load sends the 240-grain bullet downrange at 2350 fps, generating 2942 foot-pounds of muzzle energy. Those ballistics put the .444 in a sweet spot for lever-action hunters who want more power than a .30-30 but prefer the handling characteristics of a shorter-range cartridge. Inside 200 yards with proper shot placement, this ammunition handles medium to large game cleanly. The straight-walled design also makes it legal in straight-wall-only hunting seasons that have become increasingly popular across the country.
You're getting quality components throughout. The cartridges are loaded on reloadable brass cases with non-corrosive boxer primers, so if you decide to reload, you'll be able to recycle these cases multiple times. The ammunition comes in a standard 20-round box, giving you a standard hunting load quantity without waste.
The .444 Marlin is a centerfire rifle cartridge that's legal for hunting in most jurisdictions. It's particularly popular for use during straight-wall rifle seasons that have expanded in recent years. Always check your local hunting regulations for specific cartridge and season requirements where you plan to hunt.
This load handles medium to large game effectively, including whitetail deer, black bear, elk, and similar-sized animals. The 240-grain soft point with 2350 fps velocity is most effective inside 200 yards, making it ideal for the closer-range hunting typical of lever-action rifles in wooded terrain.
Yes, this ammunition is loaded on reloadable brass cases. The brass can be reloaded multiple times, which makes it a practical choice if you handload or plan to in the future. You'll get usable components even after firing.
Core-Lokt's tapered copper jacket is mechanically locked to a solid lead core. On impact, the bullet expands in a controlled manner, expanding roughly 2X its original diameter while retaining weight. This design dumps energy efficiently over the first several inches of penetration, creating large wound channels while maintaining reliable deep penetration.
