Description

This is the real deal straight from Q, the same 7" barrel that gives the Honey Badger its reputation. It's cut from stainless steel and chambered in .300 AAC Blackout, which was purpose-built to run short and run quiet. At 7 inches, the .300 BLK cartridge burns nearly all of its powder inside the tube, so you get the full potential of the round without dragging around a long barrel. Pair it with a suppressor and subsonic ammo and you've got about as quiet as a .30 cal gets.

What the 1:5 Twist Actually Does for the Honey Badger

The fast 1:5 twist rate is the star here. That aggressive spin was designed specifically to stabilize the long, heavy subsonic bullets .300 Blackout loves, the 190 to 220 grain projectiles that lumber along below the speed of sound. Slower twists can leave those heavy pills wobbling, but the 1:5 keeps them locked in for tighter groups when you're running suppressed. It'll still send supers downrange for close work, though this barrel really shines with a can and heavy subs.

Dialing In the Gas With the Honey Badger's Adjustable Block

One of the trickiest parts of any .300 BLK build is gas tuning, since subsonic and supersonic loads produce wildly different pressures. Q solved that with an indexed, adjustable stainless gas block that's essentially infinitely adjustable. One set screw meters gas flow into the system and a second locks your setting in place, while an index pin guarantees the gas port stays aligned. It's held by a jam nut rather than taper pins or standard set screws, so the barrel keeps its integrity and you can retune anytime your ammo or suppressor setup changes.

Threads and Muzzle Details on the Honey Badger Barrel

The muzzle wears 5/8-24 threads, the standard for .30 caliber cans and muzzle devices, topped with Q's 25° tapered shoulder instead of a traditional 90° face. That taper improves how concentrically your suppressor or muzzle device sits on the bore axis, which helps with repeatable point of impact and cleaner alignment. It uses a standard AR/M4 barrel extension and drops into any mil-spec AR upper, making this a straightforward path to Honey Badger performance in your own build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Q Honey Badger barrel work in a standard AR upper?

Yes. It uses a standard AR/M4 barrel extension and is built to drop into any mil-spec AR receiver. You'll just need a compatible bolt carrier group and gas tube to complete the build.

Is the 1:5 twist better for subsonic or supersonic .300 Blackout?

The 1:5 twist was developed to stabilize the long, heavy subsonic bullets in the 190 to 220 grain range, so it's ideal for suppressed subsonic shooting. It will still cycle and fire supersonic loads for close-range work, but this barrel is at its best with a suppressor and heavy subs.

Do I need a suppressor to use this Honey Badger barrel?

No, a suppressor is not required to run the barrel. That said, .300 Blackout at 7 inches was designed around suppressed use, and the 5/8-24 threads accept any standard .30 caliber can or muzzle device. Pairing it with a suppressor and subsonic ammo is where it really earns its keep.

What does the adjustable gas block do on this barrel?

The indexed adjustable gas block lets you meter exactly how much gas cycles the action, which matters a lot with .300 Blackout since subsonic and supersonic loads produce very different pressures. One screw controls gas flow and another locks it in place, and the index pin keeps the gas port aligned. That means you can tune cycling to your specific ammo and suppressor setup.
