Description

The Cherry Bomb has become one of the most recognized muzzle devices in the suppressor world, and there's a good reason for that. It pulls double duty as a recoil-taming brake and a rock-solid taper mount for Q silencers, all in a package that's just 1.64 inches long and 2 ounces. This is the standard 1/2×28 version, machined from 17-4 stainless steel with that unmistakable copper heat-treated finish that Q fans know on sight.

Why the Cherry Bomb Mounting System Works

The magic is in the taper mount shoulder. When you spin a compatible Q can like the Trash Panda or Thunder Chicken onto the Cherry Bomb, that taper centers the suppressor on the bore and seals off the threads so carbon can't gunk them up. Your can comes off by hand and goes back on the same way, returning to the same position every time. The 360 degree circumferential ports mean there is no timing to worry about and no shim kits to buy. Thread it on, torque it down, done.

Installing the Q Cherry Bomb

Installation is refreshingly simple thanks to the socket flats machined into the front of the brake. A standard 1/2 inch socket on a quarter inch drive is all it takes to get it snugged onto your barrel, and it works with standard 90 degree shouldered barrels as well as Q's own tapered barrels. A dab of Rocksett is a smart move to keep it put, though you'll need to supply your own. One thing worth knowing before you buy: Q says this brake is too short for pinning and welding to a barrel, so plan accordingly if that was part of your build.

More Than Just a Q Part

While the Cherry Bomb was designed as the front door for Q suppressors, its taper interface has been adopted by other companies too, most notably Rearden with their Atlas mounting system. That makes this little brake a surprisingly versatile foundation for a suppressed rifle, whether you're running Q cans or building around the taper standard. If a quick-attach setup with true repeatability is what you're after, this is the piece that makes it happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which suppressors work with the Q Cherry Bomb?

It was designed as the mount for Q's own cans, the Trash Panda and Thunder Chicken, which thread on by hand and align off the taper shoulder. The taper interface has also been picked up by other makers, so mounts like the Rearden Atlas system work off the Cherry Bomb as well. If you're running a non-Q can, just confirm it uses the Cherry Bomb taper pattern first.

Do I need to time or shim the Cherry Bomb muzzle brake?

Nope, and that's one of its best features. The ports run 360 degrees around the brake, so there's no top or bottom to index. Thread it on with a 1/2 inch socket, torque it down, and you're set. Skipping the shim kit and crush washer hassle makes install a five minute job.

Will the Cherry Bomb fit my barrel if it isn't a Q barrel?

Yes, as long as your muzzle threads are 1/2×28. The brake is backwards compatible with standard 90 degree shouldered barrels, so it mounts up fine on a typical threaded barrel. Q's tapered barrels get the ideal fit, but you don't need one to run this device.

Can I pin and weld the Cherry Bomb to hit 16 inches on a short barrel?

Q specifically advises against it. At 1.64 inches overall, the Cherry Bomb is too short to be a good pin and weld candidate, and it only adds about 0.8 inches of length once installed. If you need a permanently attached device to reach a certain barrel length, pick a longer muzzle device for that job.
