There is something special about running a full-power .308 through a roller-delayed action, and the PTR 51P BR delivers that experience in a package you can move around with. Built on PTR's American-made take on the classic G3 pattern, this braced pistol pairs an 8.5 inch stress-relieved, heavy-contour barrel with the smooth cycling that roller-delayed blowback is known for. The system soaks up a surprising amount of recoil for a gun this size, so 7.62x51mm feels far more manageable than you might expect.
The SB Tactical SBA4 collapsible brace comes installed from the factory, giving you a stable rear support without any extra parts hunting on your end. Up top, a 6.9 inch steel Picatinny rail is welded to the receiver, so red dots and low-power optics mount solid and hold zero the way a bolted-on claw mount never quite does. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, which covers most common .308 muzzle devices, and the 1:10 right-hand twist handles the bullet weights most people feed these guns. PTR also uses a heat-treated, full-auto profile bolt carrier, a small detail that pays off in long-term durability.
The whole gun wears black powdercoat over a Parkerized base, a two-layer finish that shrugs off weather and holster wear better than paint alone. Yes, the muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, which is the standard pitch for most .308 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. Just keep in mind that roller-delayed guns run a bit differently when suppressed, so check with your can's manufacturer about backpressure on this platform. Many owners run these suppressed with great results.
It feeds from standard G3/HK91-pattern magazines, and it ships with one 20-round aluminum mag. These magazines are one of the best parts of owning a G3-style gun since surplus aluminum mags are widely available and inexpensive. Steel G3 mags work as well if you prefer them.
Less punishing than you would guess. The roller-delayed blowback action spreads the recoil impulse out, and the SBA4 brace gives you a solid third point of contact. The muzzle blast is definitely loud with a barrel this short, so good ear protection is a must, but the actual push into your shoulder area is manageable.
