Proof Research took the pain out of building a light, accurate 7mm rifle without dragging around a heavy steel tube. This is a .284 caliber barrel blank in the Sendero Light contour, cut to 20 inches with a 1-in-8 twist. It ships as a bolt-action blank, meaning it arrives ready for your gunsmith to thread, chamber, and crown to whatever cartridge you're building around.
The magic here is the construction. Proof starts with a full-profile, match-grade 416R stainless steel barrel, then turns it down to a slim profile and wraps it in aerospace-grade carbon fiber set in a proprietary resin. The result is a barrel that shaves real ounces off your build while staying stiff. That carbon wrap also pulls heat off the bore quickly, so the barrel cools faster and holds its point of aim through longer strings of fire. This blank tips the scale right around 2 pounds 9 ounces, which is a big deal when you're chasing a backcountry hunting rig or a trim mountain gun.
The .284 bore opens the door to a whole family of 7mm cartridges, from 7mm-08 and .284 Winchester up through the various 7mm magnums. The 1-in-8 twist is a smart middle ground that stabilizes the long, high-BC 7mm bullets a lot of handloaders lean on these days. Pair it with the right chamber and you've got a flat-shooting setup that punches well above its weight.
At 20 inches with a 2.5-inch breech and a 1.20-inch shank diameter, this blank fits a wide range of popular bolt actions and drops cleanly into most sporter and light varmint stock channels. It's a favorite starting point for lightweight hunting builds where every ounce counts but you don't want to give up barrel quality. Keep in mind a certified gunsmith needs to finish the chambering and installation, so factor that into your project plan.
No. This ships as a bolt-action blank, meaning it is unchambered and unthreaded. A certified gunsmith needs to thread, chamber, and crown it for your specific action and cartridge before it's ready to shoot.
The .284 bore covers the 7mm family, including options like 7mm-08 Remington, .284 Winchester, 7mm WSM, and the 7mm magnums. Your gunsmith cuts the chamber to whatever 7mm cartridge you choose. The 1-in-8 twist is well suited to the longer, higher-BC 7mm bullets.
Proof builds these by turning a full-profile 416R stainless barrel down to a slim core and wrapping it in carbon fiber, which cuts significant weight. This blank runs around 2 pounds 9 ounces, making it a strong pick for lightweight hunting and mountain builds where every ounce matters.
Yes, that's one of the main draws. The carbon fiber pulls heat away from the bore and moves it along and through the barrel wall, so it cools faster than a comparable steel contour. That helps the barrel hold accuracy over longer strings of fire.
