Description
The Star Model BM is a cool bit of history — a compact, single-action, all-steel 9mm produced in Spain between 1972 and 1992, with roots in the 1911 platform and a long service record with Spanish military and police agencies. Over 200,000 were made, and many found their way to the US market through importers like Century Arms and Interarms. They're great shooters, but like any out-of-production pistol, finding spare magazines has become increasingly difficult. That's where this ProMag STA 30 comes in.
This is a straightforward, 8-round single-stack replacement mag built specifically for the Star Model BM chambered in 9mm. The body is constructed from heat-treated carbon steel with a black oxide finish, keeping that classic blued look consistent with the pistol itself. The spring is wound from heat-treated chrome-silicon wire, which ProMag uses across their lineup for its fatigue resistance and ability to maintain tension over time. An injection-molded polymer follower guides rounds up the tube, and witness holes on the body let you do a quick visual round count without having to drop the mag.
New springs can be stiff right out of the box, which is pretty normal for steel magazines. A few cycles of loading and unloading will loosen things up. ProMag backs this magazine with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects, so if something isn't right, you have a path to get it resolved.
For Star BM owners, this is one of the only readily available new-production magazine options on the market today. Whether you're picking up a spare for the range or just want a backup on hand, the STA 30 fills a gap that's hard to fill anywhere else.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this magazine fit any other Star models besides the BM?
This magazine is designed and spec'd specifically for the Star Model BM chambered in 9mm. It will not fit the Star Super, the full-size Star Model B, or other Star variants. If you're unsure which model you have, double-check your pistol's rollmarks before ordering.
Is this magazine a drop-free design?
No. The Star BM itself was not designed with a drop-free magazine release — the mag must be assisted out by hand when released, which is standard for the platform. This is a characteristic of the pistol's design, not the magazine.
The spring feels really stiff and I'm having trouble loading all 8 rounds. Is something wrong?
Stiff springs on new steel magazines are completely normal and expected. Loading and unloading the magazine a number of times without firing will help break the spring in. Most users find it loosens up with regular use and eventually loads to full capacity without issue.
Why is this one of the only new-production magazines available for the Star BM?
Star Bonifacio Echeverria stopped production in 1997, so there are no factory magazines being made anymore. Original surplus mags do pop up occasionally but are increasingly hard to track down. ProMag is one of the few manufacturers producing a new-made replacement for this pistol, which makes this about as practical an option as you'll find.
Does ProMag offer any warranty on this magazine?
Yes, ProMag backs this magazine with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects. If you have an issue related to a manufacturing problem, you can contact ProMag's tech support team to start the warranty process. Note that modifications or deliberate abuse will void coverage.
Is this magazine made in the USA?
Yes, it is manufactured in the United States. ProMag produces their magazines at their facility in Phoenix, Arizona, using heat-treated steel stampings and in-house assembly.
