The Pointer Field Tek 4 is a gas-operated semi-automatic 12 gauge built for hunters and range enthusiasts who want a capable, good-looking shotgun without spending a fortune on it. The gas system keeps felt recoil manageable and cycling fast, which matters when you're tracking a flushing bird or running a round of clays. Chambered for 3" shells and accepting both 2-3/4" and 3" loads, it handles everything from light target loads to heavier hunting rounds with ease. The 28" chrome-lined barrel is topped with a raised ventilated rib and a fiber optic front sight for a fast, bright sight picture.
The combination of Mossy Oak Bottomland on the synthetic stock and Midnight Bronze Cerakote on the receiver and barrel isn't just good-looking — it gives this shotgun a real edge in wet or rough conditions. Cerakote is a legitimate protective finish that resists corrosion, moisture, and abrasion, and it holds up far better than standard blued or parkerized metal when you're dragging a gun through brush and cattails all season. The textured synthetic stock and forend give you a secure grip even with wet gloves. The receiver also features laser etching, giving it a finished, premium look you don't usually see at this price point.
Pointer includes five extended choke tubes — Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full — covering you for virtually any hunting or clay shooting situation. The tubes use a Beretta Mobil-style thread pattern, which means aftermarket options from companies like Carlson's and Trulock are readily available when you want to expand your setup. A ventilated recoil pad rounds out the package and takes some of the edge off heavier loads. The crossbolt safety and single-round magazine cut-off are straightforward features that hunters and range regulars will find familiar and easy to work with. At 7.2 lbs. and 48" overall, it swings naturally and balances well for a full-day hunt.
The Field Tek 4 uses a Beretta Mobil-style choke thread pattern. This is one of the most widely supported thread systems in the industry, meaning aftermarket tubes from brands like Carlson's, Trulock, and others are easy to find. The gun ships with five extended chokes (C, IC, M, IM, F) that cover the full range of hunting and clay shooting applications.
As a gas-operated semi-auto, the Field Tek 4 cycles reliably across a range of loads, though like most gas guns it performs best with standard and heavier loads. Very light 7/8 oz. promotional loads may not cycle as consistently. For hunting and general range use with standard 1 oz. or heavier shells, the platform has earned a solid reputation for feeding and ejecting without issue.
Cerakote is a polymer-ceramic coating that's extremely resistant to corrosion, moisture, and general wear — significantly more durable than traditional bluing. The Midnight Bronze finish covers both the barrel and the receiver, so the metal surfaces are well protected during wet hunts or extended storage. It also cleans up easily after a day in the field.
The Field Tek 4 has a standard length of pull of approximately 14 inches, which fits most adult shooters well. The synthetic stock does not include a built-in shim kit for cast or drop adjustments on this model, so if fit is a significant concern, handling the gun before purchasing is always a good idea.
The barrel is chrome-lined and the gun ships with extended choke tubes, but you should only run steel shot through the Cylinder or Improved Cylinder choke at most — never through tighter constrictions like Modified or Full with steel shot. Always verify that any aftermarket choke you install is specifically rated for steel shot before using non-toxic loads.
Takedown follows a standard semi-auto field-strip process, but the gas system has a fair number of components and the bolt handle requires some firm effort to remove. It's not overly complicated once you've done it a couple of times, but first-timers should work through the owner's manual carefully and take their time on reassembly to make sure the gas system seats correctly.
