There's a lot to like about a gas gun that just runs, and that's the whole idea behind the Pointer FT12 Field Tek. Imported by Legacy Sports International, this 12 gauge semi-auto uses a gas-operated cycling system paired with a rotating bolt head, which does a nice job of soaking up recoil and keeping the gun settled between shots. The 3 inch chamber gives you room to run everything from light target loads on the clays course to heavier hunting loads when the season opens, and the 5+1 capacity means fewer trips to your shell pouch.
The 28 inch barrel is the classic all-around field length, long enough for a smooth, deliberate swing on crossing birds but not so long that it feels like you're waving a flagpole around. A ventilated rib keeps your eye tracking flat down the barrel, and the green fiber optic front sight grabs your attention fast when a bird flushes or a clay breaks from the trap. The receiver is anodized aluminum, which trims weight where you want it trimmed, and the crossbolt safety sits right where your trigger finger expects it.
Pointer ships the FT12 with five choke tubes covering Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. That's a genuinely useful spread. Screw in the Improved Cylinder for skeet and early season quail, go Modified for dove fields and pheasants, or tighten up to Full when shots stretch out. The fixed synthetic stock shrugs off weather and rough handling, so this is a gun you can toss in the truck, drag through a briar patch, and wipe down at the end of the day without babying it. For a first semi-auto, a loaner gun, or a workhorse you won't feel bad about hunting hard, the Field Tek 12 covers a ton of ground.
Yes. The FT12 has a 3 inch chamber, so it handles standard 2-3/4 inch target and field loads as well as 3 inch magnum hunting loads. Like most gas guns, it tends to run best when it's clean and fed loads with enough power to cycle the action, so very light target loads are worth patterning and testing first.
It ships with five choke tubes: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. That range covers close-in skeet and upland work all the way out to longer pass shooting. Spend a little time patterning your favorite loads with each tube and you'll know exactly what the gun wants to shoot.

It's one of the better setups for extended shooting at this price point.
