Patriot Ordnance Factory has been refining piston-driven ARs longer than just about anyone, and the P415 Edge Pistol in .300 Blackout is where all that development lands. Instead of venting hot gas back into the receiver like a standard AR, the P415 runs a pistol-length gas piston system with a 5-position adjustable gas plug. That means a cooler, cleaner action, and the adjustability lets you dial the gun in for supersonic loads, subsonics, or suppressed shooting without beating up the gun or yourself. If you plan on running a can, this is exactly the kind of setup you want, and the 5/8×24 threaded muzzle with POF's 3-prong flash hider makes swapping one on painless.
The 10.5 inch barrel is 4150 CrMoV steel with a black nitride treatment, 5R rifling, and a 1:7 twist that stabilizes heavy subsonic .300 Blackout bullets just as well as lighter supersonic stuff. Inside, POF stacked the deck with the details they're known for: a one-piece piston bolt carrier with the key machined in, a roller cam pin that glides instead of grinding on the upper, nickel-plated bolt and extractor, and E2 extraction technology that puts small vents in the chamber to ease cases out and extend extractor life. The anti-tilt buffer tube cradles the carrier even when the bolt is forward, which keeps everything running straight over the long haul.
The billet Gen 4 lower is fully ambidextrous, with safety, bolt release, and mag release mirrored on both sides, plus an ambi Strike Eagle charging handle up top. The single-stage drop-in trigger breaks at a clean 4.5 pounds, which is a genuine upgrade over the gritty mil-spec triggers most factory guns ship with. A 9 inch M-LOK Edge free-float handguard gives you plenty of real estate for lights and grips, and the MFT Engage V2 grip fills the hand nicely.
At around 6.7 pounds with the Burnt Bronze Cerakote finish, this is a compact, sharp-looking package that runs clean, shoots soft, and handles suppressors better than just about any direct impingement gun in its class. It ships with one 30-round MFT magazine and is ready to work right out of the box.
It's one of the better factory options out there for suppressed shooting. The 5-position adjustable gas plug lets you turn the gas down to account for the added back pressure a can creates, which keeps bolt speed in check and the action running smooth. The 5/8×24 threads accept most .30 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices, and the piston system keeps gas blowback to your face way down compared to a direct impingement gun.
Yes, and this is where the adjustable gas system earns its keep. The 1:7 twist barrel stabilizes heavy 190 to 220 grain subsonic bullets well, and you can open the gas plug up for reliable cycling with subs unsuppressed, then dial it back down for supersonic or suppressed loads. It takes the guesswork out of running the full range of .300 Blackout ammo.
A standard AR vents hot, dirty gas straight back into the bolt carrier and receiver, which builds carbon and heat where you least want it. The P415's piston drives an op rod instead, so the fouling stays up front at the gas block and the action runs cooler and cleaner. That translates to less frequent cleaning and better reliability during long range sessions, especially suppressed.
They are. The billet Gen 4 lower has the safety selector, magazine release, and bolt catch mirrored on both sides of the receiver, and the Strike Eagle charging handle has latches on both sides too. Left-handed users get the same access to every control as righties without adding aftermarket parts.
