Patriot Ordnance Factory doesn't build bare-bones ARs, and the Minuteman pistol is proof. Where most guns in this class start with forged mil-spec receivers and a gritty stock trigger, POF machines the upper and lower from billet aluminum and drops in a single-stage match trigger with a flat shoe that breaks at a clean 3.5 pounds, held in place with KNS anti-walk pins. That's the kind of trigger people usually buy as an upgrade, and here it comes standard. The Tungsten Cerakote finish gives it a gray tone that stands out without screaming for attention.
The internals are where POF really earns its reputation. The bolt carrier group runs a roller cam pin instead of the standard square key, which cuts friction and keeps the carrier from chewing up the inside of the upper receiver over time. Then there's the patented E2 dual extraction system, four small channels cut into the chamber neck that vent a bit of gas against the case on firing, breaking the seal and taking most of the workload off the extractor. Add the anti-tilt buffer tube with its carrier cradle design and you've got a short-barreled 5.56 that's built to run hard for a long time.
The 10.5 inch barrel is 4150 chrome moly vanadium steel, nitride heat treated inside and out, with 5R rifling in a 1:8 twist that stabilizes everything from 55 grain plinking ammo to heavier defensive loads. The muzzle wears POF's three-prong flash hider on 1/2×28 threads, which does real work taming flash out of a short barrel. Up top, the 9 inch Renegade rail free-floats the barrel with M-LOK slots for lights and accessories, and the oversized heat sink barrel nut helps pull heat away from the chamber during fast strings.
Controls are fully ambidextrous, from the safety selector to the Strike Eagle charging handle and the QD sling end plate. At 5.5 pounds and 26.5 inches overall, the Minuteman is quick handling in tight spaces and easy to stow. It ships with a 30-round Mission First Tactical magazine, so all it needs is an optic and a range day.
Yes. The chamber is cut to 5.56 NATO spec, which means it safely handles both 5.56×45 NATO and .223 Remington ammunition. The 1:8 twist rate is a nice middle ground that stabilizes bullet weights from light 55 grain range ammo up to heavier 77 grain match loads.
E2 consists of four small channels cut into the neck of the chamber. When a round fires, a small amount of gas flows into those channels and pushes against the case, breaking its seal with the chamber walls before the extractor ever engages. The practical result is smoother extraction, better reliability when the gun runs dirty or hot, and significantly longer extractor life.
The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard thread pitch for 5.56 suppressors and muzzle devices, so swapping the factory three-prong flash hider for a suppressor mount is straightforward. Keep in mind the gas block is non-adjustable, so a 10.5 inch barrel will run a bit gassier when suppressed. Most cans still cycle fine on this setup.
It's a big step up. Instead of a heavy mil-spec trigger, POF installs their own single-stage drop-in unit with a flat shoe that breaks around 3.5 pounds with minimal take-up and a firm, fast reset. It's secured with KNS anti-walk pins, and independent testing has consistently praised how crisp it is for quick follow-up shots.
