Anyone who's spent time working on trigger control knows that dry firing is one of the best ways to build good habits, but doing it without a snap cap can slowly beat up a firing pin over time. Pachmayr's A-Zoom snap caps solve that problem for the 450 Bushmaster with a precision-machined aluminum body that mimics the exact dimensions of a live round, so it feeds, chambers, and ejects just like the real thing without any powder or primer involved.
Each cap is machined as a single piece rather than assembled from separate parts, which means there's no wobble between the case and bullet like you might find on cheaper training rounds. A hard-anodized finish keeps the aluminum body running smooth through repeated cycling, and a rubber insert at the base absorbs the strike from your firing pin so it never contacts bare metal.
Beyond basic dry fire practice, this pair works well for tuning and adjusting trigger pull, since you get instant feedback without the distraction of recoil. They're also handy for running function and cycling tests on a new rifle or after cleaning, checking that your bolt and extractor are doing their job correctly. A lot of owners also keep one loaded in the chamber for storage, which lets the striker spring sit in a relaxed position instead of staying compressed for months at a time.
The 5.85 inch length matches factory 450 Bushmaster ammunition, so it sits and feeds naturally in bolt guns and semi-autos alike. This particular listing comes as a 2-pack, which is plenty for most range bag or safe storage needs, and the aluminum construction means these aren't something you'll need to replace after a handful of uses.
They're built to take the place of live ammunition during dry fire practice, trigger tuning, and function testing. The rubber primer insert absorbs the firing pin strike so you can safely practice trigger control or cycle your rifle without risking damage.
No, that's the whole point of the design. The rubber insert at the base cushions the pin strike, which is much easier on your rifle than dry firing with an empty chamber over and over.
Yes, the aluminum body is machined to the same dimensions as a live round so it feeds and extracts naturally. Many owners use them specifically to check bolt and extractor function after cleaning or before heading to the range.
For most dry fire routines or storage purposes, two is plenty since the aluminum construction holds up well to repeated use. If you're running drills with a partner or want a spare in a range bag and one in your safe, picking up a second pack isn't a bad idea.
