Most pistol-caliber guns in this class use simple blowback, which means a heavy bolt slamming back and forth and more felt recoil than a 9mm has any business producing. NEMO Arms went a different direction with the Mongoose. It runs a short-recoil operating system with redundant locking lugs and a tilting barrel, more like a traditional pistol than a subgun. The result is a lightweight bolt, less reciprocating mass, and a 9mm that stays flat and comes back on target fast. At 3.6 pounds bare and right around 13.7 inches long with the brace folded, it is genuinely compact too.
The 5.8 inch QPQ nitrided barrel has a 1:10 twist and 1/2×28 threads, and NEMO ships it with two end caps: a compensator cap that tames muzzle rise for regular range use, and a flat cap for running a suppressor. The receiver set pairs an extruded aluminum upper with a billet lower, topped by an integral 10.25 inch Picatinny rail with M-LOK slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock for lights and accessories. An ALG ACT trigger comes standard, which is a nice touch you rarely see from the factory. Controls are fully ambidextrous, including the safety, mag release, and bolt catch, and the non-reciprocating charging handle can be swapped to either side.
Feeding comes from CZ Scorpion pattern magazines, and a Magpul 35-round PMAG EV9 is included in the box along with a soft range bag. The SB Tactical FS1913 folding brace mounts to a rear Picatinny back plate, so swapping rear-end accessories down the road is simple. Furniture is rounded out with a Magpul MOE SL grip, and the whole package wears a clean black anodized finish.
