Grand Power took everything people liked about the original Stribog and fixed the two biggest gripes with the A3 generation. The SP9A3S runs a semi-locked bolt with roller-delayed operation instead of straight blowback, which takes a real bite out of felt recoil and keeps the muzzle flatter during quick strings. The charging handle is now non-reciprocating too, so it stays put up front while you shoot instead of cycling back at your support hand. This is the short version of the platform, with a 5.5 inch barrel threaded 1/2×28 and capped with a thread protector, making it about as handy as a 9mm large-format pistol gets.
That 1/2×28 threading isn't just for show. The roller-delayed system runs noticeably quieter and cleaner suppressed than a standard blowback gun, and the short barrel keeps the overall package compact even with a can hanging off the front. Range reports on this platform consistently mention how soft it shoots for a sub-9mm, with less of that snappy bolt slap you get from heavier blowback designs. Grand Power also refined the trigger on the A3 series with a new flat design, a welcome upgrade over earlier models.
The Slovakian-built SP9A3S uses an aircraft-grade aluminum upper mated to a polymer lower, all wearing a matte Flat Dark Earth finish. Up top you get a full-length Picatinny rail for your red dot, with M-LOK slots at 3 and 9 o'clock for a light or laser. Flip-up iron sights come installed, so it works right out of the case. Controls are fully ambidextrous, including the safety lever, and a 1913 Picatinny back plate plus QD sling socket give you solid options for setting the gun up your way.
In the box you'll find three 30-round proprietary curved magazines and a molded hard case. Whether it's a range toy, truck gun, or suppressor host, this one earns its spot.
The S stands for short. The SP9A3S runs a 5.5 inch barrel instead of the 8 inch barrel on the standard SP9A3, which trims the overall length and makes it noticeably handier, especially with a suppressor attached. Both share the same roller-delayed action and non-reciprocating charging handle.
It's one of the better 9mm hosts in this class. The roller-delayed action runs quieter and cleaner suppressed than standard blowback designs, and the factory 1/2×28 threading accepts most common 9mm cans. The short barrel also keeps the total package compact once a suppressor is mounted.
The delay system was originally tuned around 124-grain NATO-spec loads, but current production guns ship with the US locker, which is set up for common American 115-grain range ammo. Quality factory loads in either weight should run fine. As with any new gun, give it a break-in with a few different loads to find what it likes.
No, this model uses Grand Power's proprietary curved magazines, and three 30-rounders come in the box. Grand Power makes a separate G-series Stribog built around Glock-pattern mags. The proprietary mags are well made and spares are easy to find in 10, 20, and 30-round capacities.
