North American Arms built its name on tiny five-shot revolvers, and for years they all shared one quirk: reloading meant pulling the cylinder completely out of the frame. The Sidewinder changes that. NAA gave this .22 Magnum mini a swing-out cylinder with a spring-loaded ejector rod, so the cylinder stays put while you push out empties and drop in fresh rounds. Set the hammer at half-cock, pull the knurled ejector head forward, and the cylinder rolls out to the right side of the frame. It is a small change on paper that makes a real difference at the loading bench or in the field.
Everything here is stainless steel, with the barrel and cylinder machined from bar stock to hold the tight tolerances a gun this small demands. The polished cylinder and frame sides play nicely against the matte topstrap and barrel, and the laminated rosewood bird's head grip has a rounded, teardrop contour that fills the hand better than you'd expect from something this compact. A fixed stainless post front sight keeps the sight picture simple, which suits a revolver meant for up-close work. Total weight is 6.7 ounces with a 5-inch overall length, so it disappears into a pocket without a second thought.
Like every NAA mini, the Sidewinder uses safety notches machined between the chambers. Rest the hammer nose in one of those notches and you can carry all five chambers loaded without the firing pin sitting on a live rim. Guide marks on the recoil shield help you line things up correctly every time. It is a smart, time-tested system that lets this little single-action earn its keep as a backup piece or trail companion.
The .22 WMR chambering gives you a meaningful step up in velocity over .22 LR from a gun that barely registers on the scale, and it runs everything from defensive loads to rimfire shotshells for snakes on the trail. If you want cheap practice down the road, NAA offers a .22 LR conversion cylinder (sold separately as the NAA-SWC) that swaps in with a single frame screw. Most NAA minis require you to pull the cylinder pin and remove the entire cylinder from the frame to reload. The Sidewinder uses a swing-out cylinder that stays attached to the gun, paired with a spring-loaded ejector rod to push out spent cases. It opens to the right side of the frame rather than the left, which is unusual but works fine once you get the hang of it.
Not out of the box, since this model ships with a .22 Magnum cylinder only. NAA does sell a .22 LR conversion cylinder separately (the NAA-SWC), and swapping cylinders only requires removing a single screw at the front of the frame. That makes it easy to run inexpensive .22 LR for practice and load up magnum rounds for carry.
