There are plenty of defensive pump guns out there, but very few come out of the box this squared away. The Mossberg 590S Magpul combo (model 51606) takes the proven 590 platform and adds the two upgrades most owners end up buying anyway: quality furniture and a dot. The gray Magpul SGA buttstock adjusts length of pull from 12.25 to 14.25 inches with a spacer system, so it fits everyone in the house, and the recoil pad takes real sting out of 12 gauge loads. Up front, the extended MOE forend gives you hand stops for positive pump strokes plus M-LOK slots for a light. Both pieces have QD swivel points built in.
The S in 590S is the whole story. A redesigned elevator, bolt slide, and energy-absorbing bumper let this gun cycle 1.75", 2.75", and 3" shells interchangeably, in any order, with zero adapters. Load it however you want. That means 5+1 with 3" magnums, 6+1 with standard 2.75" loads, or a full 9+1 with mini shells. Feeding minis reliably through a pump gun used to require aftermarket workarounds, and the 590S just does it natively.
The receiver is cut for Shield RMSc footprint optics, and Mossberg ships this one with a Holosun HS407K already installed. You get a crisp 6 MOA dot, 12 brightness settings, Shake Awake so it wakes the moment the gun moves, and battery life rated up to 50,000 hours. A cover plate is included if you ever want to run it slick with the front bead instead.
Underneath the upgrades, this is still the workhorse action folks trust: dual extractors, twin action bars, positive steel-to-steel lockup, anti-jam elevator, and the top-mounted ambidextrous safety that works the same from either shoulder. The 18.5" cylinder bore barrel keeps it quick handling in tight spaces, and at 6.75 pounds it swings fast without beating you up. For home defense or a do-it-all truck gun, this setup is genuinely hard to beat.
