Anyone who has fought a seized barrel nut on a .308 upper knows the sinking feeling of watching an expensive receiver flex in a vise block. The Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod .308 solves that by locking into the barrel extension itself, which is far stronger than the aluminum receiver around it. That means every bit of torque you apply during a barrel nut install, removal, or muzzle device job transfers straight into the steel where it belongs, not into the walls of your upper.
This one is built specifically for LR308 and AR10 pattern barrels and receivers, and it plays nice with both forged and billet uppers. It slides into place, indexes off the barrel extension, and holds everything rock solid. One detail builders really appreciate is the raised spine along the top, which adds rigidity and gives you a serious advantage when you are muscling a stubborn nut loose. It is designed so it won't damage the index pin during muzzle device work, and because it doesn't wrap around the outside of the receiver, you can leave receiver-mounted sights installed and even use it to install a forward assist or port door cover.
Machined from 4140 ordnance grade steel and finished in black oxide, this is a tool that gets handed down rather than replaced. It is heavy, solid, and shows no interest in bending or flexing under load. The black oxide finish shrugs off years of shop use, and the whole thing is made in the USA.
You can clamp it horizontally or vertically depending on your bench setup and how you like to work. The rod gives you a stable platform for barrel installs, handguard swaps, gas block and gas tube work, and sight mounting. One note worth mentioning up front: this .308 version is not compatible with the DPMS G2 pattern, so double check your platform before setting up your build.

This rod transfers all the force to the barrel extension instead, which is much stronger. The raised spine on top adds rigidity for stubborn nuts, and since nothing wraps the exterior, you can leave sights on and access the port door and forward assist.
