The Mesa Tactical Urbino is the stock that basically defined what a tactical shotgun stock should be. Built for the Remington 870 in 12 gauge, it swaps out your factory furniture for a fixed pistol-grip design with a 12.5-inch length of pull. That shorter reach is the whole point here. It lets you shoulder the gun cleanly when you're wearing body armor, a plate carrier, or just a bulky winter coat, without the buttpad hanging up on your gear. Molded from glass-filled nylon, it's stiff, tough, and built to hold up to years of hard use.
Recoil management is where this stock really earns its keep. The included Limbsaver buttpad soaks up a serious chunk of felt recoil, and folks running heavy buckshot and slugs through their 870s consistently notice the difference. The soft urethane grip is padded at the rear so it cushions the web of your hand instead of beating it up, which matters a lot during long range sessions or qualification courses. It's comfortable enough that you'll actually want to put more rounds downrange.
The field-adjustable cheek riser is a nice touch if you're running a red dot or other optic. It raises your cheek weld so your eye lines up naturally behind the sight instead of forcing you to crane your neck. On the sling front, the stock includes Benelli-style rear sling loops sized for 1.25-inch webbing, plus a hole in the lower rear that accepts a QD swivel for a single-point setup. Between those options you've got plenty of flexibility to hang the gun the way you like.
One thing worth knowing before you order: this fits standard Remington 870 receivers, but some older 870s can have thread engagement quirks with the mounting bolt, so it's worth checking the manual if your gun has some age on it. It's a fixed length, so there's no adjustment, but that also means one less thing to rattle loose.
Yes, this version includes both the Limbsaver buttpad and the field-adjustable cheek riser. The Limbsaver does a real job of cutting felt recoil, which people running slugs and buckshot appreciate. The riser raises your cheek weld so you line up behind a red dot or optic without straining.
The Urbino is a buttstock only, so your existing forend will still function fine. That said, plenty of owners choose to swap in a matching tactical forend for a more cohesive look, since the factory wood or standard forend won't match the Urbino's texture. If you plan to add a side saddle shell carrier down the road, that may factor into your forend choice too.
