The MDT XRS is one of those upgrades that changes how a rifle feels the moment you shoulder it. Built specifically for the Ruger American short action, this chassis keeps the familiar lines and lighter weight of a traditional stock while adding the rigidity and adjustability that a modern chassis brings. At roughly 3.9 pounds depending on inlet, it stays light enough to carry on a hunt but rides steady enough for punching tight groups off the bench or a bipod.
The backbone here is a full-length CNC machined core of 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum, wrapped in high-strength textured polymer side panels that shrug off cold, heat, and grime. The precision aluminum V-block bedding system locks your action in place and lets you torque your action screws down properly, which is where a lot of the accuracy gains come from. The barrel free-floats, so nothing is dragging on your point of impact shot to shot. Folks who have bolted one onto a factory Ruger American routinely see their groups tighten up without touching anything else on the rifle.
Length of pull adjusts from 13.25 inches out past 15 inches using the included spacer kit, and the quick-adjust cheek piece lets you get your eye lined up dead center behind the scope. You also get both an angled grip and a vertical grip in the box, so you can set the grip angle that suits your hold and trigger reach. Little touches like the ambidextrous mag latch and QD sling cups make it comfortable to run whether you shoot right or left handed.
The generous 12-inch forend is loaded with M-LOK slots for mounting bipods, ARCA or Picatinny rails, weights, and whatever else your discipline calls for. It feeds from standard AICS pattern magazines in common short-action calibers, so finding mags is easy. Whether you are building out a dedicated target rig or just want your hunting rifle to shoot and feel better, the XRS gives you a foundation you can keep tuning.
This model is cut specifically for the Ruger American short action, right-hand version. It drops in and secures with the included captured action screws. If your rifle is a long action or a different make, MDT offers the XRS in other inlets, so double-check your action before ordering.
The XRS feeds from standard AICS pattern magazines in common short-action calibers like .223 and .308. That covers a wide range of options from MDT, Accuracy International, and others. It also has an easy-to-reach ambidextrous mag latch for quick swaps.
Most people find the swap straightforward with basic Allen wrenches, and it often wraps up in under an hour. You pull the barreled action from the factory stock, set it into the V-block, and torque the action screws to spec.
