Description

The MDT ORYX Sportsman Chassis is one of the easiest ways to get real precision-rifle performance out of a factory Savage long action without diving into a full custom build. It's a drop-in metal stock replacement that beds your action on a solid aluminum block and free-floats the barrel, so every shot has the same rigid, repeatable connection between you and the rifle. If you've been shooting groups out of a flexy factory stock and wondering where your accuracy went, this is usually the fix.

What the ORYX Sportsman Brings to Your Savage

The whole thing is machined from one piece of 6061 aluminum and hard-anodized to a Mil-Spec finish, then wrapped in that Olive Drab Green Cerakote with polymer side panels that keep your hands comfortable whether it's freezing in a blind or blazing at the range. Installation is about as simple as it gets: pull your barreled action out of the factory stock, drop it into the ORYX, and torque down two action screws that come in the box. No gunsmithing, no bedding compound, no headaches.

One of the sleeper upgrades here is magazine feeding. If your Savage came with an internal box magazine, the ORYX converts it to accept detachable AICS-pattern magazines. This long-action model uses the 3.715-inch AICS mags, so double-check the length stamped on any mag before you buy.

Dialing In the Fit

Ergonomics are where a chassis really earns its keep. The integrated buttstock gives you an adjustable length of pull in the 13 to 13.5 inch range, with an adjustable cheek riser for a consistent cheek weld behind your scope. It takes standard AR-15 pistol grips so you can run whatever feels right in your hand, and the forend is loaded with M-LOK slots plus ARCA compatibility for bipods, sling studs, weapon lights, or a tripod setup when you're glassing for coyotes or hogs.

This is a proven platform that's carried shooters to wins in NRL Hunter and PRS matches, so it's just as at home on a long-range target line as it is in the deer woods. Fits Savage 110, 111, 112, 114, and 116 long actions. It does not fit the Savage Axis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the ORYX Sportsman fit my Savage Axis?

No, this long-action model is built for Savage 110-series actions with 5.062-inch action screw spacing, which covers the 110, 111, 112, 114, and 116. The Savage Axis uses different spacing and needs its own dedicated ORYX chassis. Always confirm your model before ordering.

Do I need a gunsmith to install the ORYX chassis?

Not at all. Installation is a drop-in job: pull your barreled action from the factory stock, set it into the chassis, and tighten the two included action screws down to about a quarter turn past snug. Most people have it done in a few minutes with a single Allen wrench.

What magazines does the ORYX Sportsman use?

It converts your Savage to accept detachable AICS-pattern magazines, which is a nice bonus if your rifle came with an internal box magazine. For this long-action version you'll want 3.715-inch AICS mags. Magazines are sold separately, and the length is usually stamped right on the mag so you can verify fit.

Can I mount a bipod and use it on a tripod?

Yes. The forend has M-LOK slots for bipods, sling studs, and weapon lights, plus ARCA compatibility so you can clamp straight onto a tripod for glassing or shooting off barricades. That flexibility is a big part of why the ORYX works so well for both hunting and precision matches.
