The Magpul MOE SL-S is the storage-capable member of the MOE SL family, and it earns its spot by giving you real waterproof storage without turning your buttstock into a bulky brick. It drops right onto any mil-spec carbine receiver extension, so if you're running a standard AR-15 or M4 setup you can swap it on in a few minutes with no gunsmithing. What sets the SL-S apart from the standard SL is the pair of battery tubes tucked into each side of the stock. Each one holds up to two CR123A lithium or two AA batteries, and they're sealed with O-rings rated waterproof to 10 meters. That means spare batteries for your optic, light, or laser stay dry and protected no matter what the weather throws at you. The plugs are hand-removable and accessible from the rear in any position, so you're not fighting to get at your gear when you need it.
Magpul placed the storage tubes to work with the sloping cheek weld rather than fight it, which lets you keep a more upright head position behind the optic. The rolled toe and angled rubber butt-pad are shaped to ride cleanly over body armor and plate carriers, making shoulder transitions smoother when you're kitted up. Dual-side release latches keep length-of-pull adjustments quick and snag-free from either hand.
Inside, a leaf-spring tension system snugs the stock down onto mil-spec extensions with slightly less friction than the original SL, so it locks up tight without rattling around. The reinforced polymer construction shrugs off abuse, and an ambidextrous QD sling swivel socket is built right in to handle push-button swivels up to 1.5 inches.
