The Magpul MOE M-LOK Mid-Length Handguard is one of the easiest ways to bring an older AR-15 or M4 into the modern era without breaking out a full toolbox. It swaps in for the factory two-piece plastic handguard on rifles running a mid-length gas system, using the delta ring and front retaining cap you already have. No barrel nut wrench, no proprietary hardware, no trip to the gunsmith. If your rifle wears a standard front sight base and delta ring, this thing drops right in.
What sets it apart from the old-school GI handguards is the M-LOK slotting. You get direct-attach points at the 2, 6, and 10 o'clock positions, so you can bolt on a light, a sling mount, a vertical grip, or a short Picatinny rail section right where you want it. No, the MOE M-LOK is a drop-in style handguard, not a free-float rail. It attaches at the delta ring and front cap, so it makes contact with the barrel assembly at both ends. If free-floating is a priority, you'd want a rail that mounts to a proprietary barrel nut instead.
The slots at the 2, 6, and 10 o'clock positions accept any standard M-LOK accessory, including direct-attach lights, grips, sling mounts, and bipod studs.
